I have a 73 ebody that originally had a vinyl top. I am in the process of restoring the car and do not plan on replacing the vinyl top. I have heard that the drip rail moldings used on a vinyl top car are different than from a non-vinyl top car. Is that true? If so, where can I get the non-vinyl top drip rail moldings?
Thanks in advance.
Ron

I ran the same drip rails, just cleaned them up. You'll have to do something with the window and chrome trim around the door. The vinyl top was captured under those so it fits with space for the top, I removed all mine and then reinstalled it to tighten it up.

They are bigger so that there is space for the vinyl. The vinyl has been removed on my A body, and they rattle, and move when touched. I don't know if they can be closed up any, I would think that it would be better to find the correct ones.

i always thought they used the same drip rail moldings on E bodies with or without a V-top. A & B bodies yes they had different moldings.

when they screwed them on they lightly bent themselves to clear the top.
just lightly bend the molding to fit tighter and you should be fine.

the motor auto body crash book i have printed in 1981 shows no different moldings for V-top.

perception is 90% of reality

I would tend to agree with this statement, while I know the B bodies had vinyl/non vinyl mlds, as far E bodies, I've deleted vinyl tops or added them to E's over the decades and never had any issues with the mldgs, when I've deleted vinyl's on B bodyies, or any car that I felt the drip rails were "loose" on the gutter, I just tighten them up by using a rubber mallet and or wooden block to tighten/shrink the vertical profile of the mldg so it was tighter on the gutter edge

Thanks for your replies. That is the answer on the trim question I was looking for. I can reuse my existing OEM moldings which fortunately are in mint shape.
