After all these years just cut my first housing to shorten, I was surprised this housing is 1/4 thick in the tube. Are all that size? Thought they where thinner they way people said they would bend and flex.!! Learn something new everyday.

I narrowed a Ford 9" for my deuce and the tubes were 1/4". I think pretty much all the heavy duty units will be close to that, no matter who the manufacturer is.

I would guess that the majority of the bending comes near the center of the axle where the moment arm is longest and the axle housing has the least rigidity.

They bend next to the center and will toe in, the ends move forward. Just use a back brace on it.
Have a great day Iowan

They bend next to the center and will toe in, the ends move forward. Just use a back brace on it. I noticed it does look weak right where it starts getting bigger. I'm thinking a back brace shaped like a flat diamond, instead of the 2x3 box, would also help it from twisting.
