Looking for some ideas on where to mount the trunk battery switch.
Don`t like the idea of it hanging under the bumper, not sure if I could live with drilling a hole in my newly chromed bumper either.

If you want to mount the switch inside the trunk - this is what I did

Very nice.

But unless the rule has changed, does`nt the switch have to accessible in case of an accident per NHRA rules?

If I can put it in the trunk AND be legal, problem solved!

Must be accessible from the outside. Could you make a bracket and mount it next to the license plate in the gap? The bracket and switch could go behind the plate and the knob beyond the plate. You might look into a push pull type switch.

From 2010 NHRA rules

8:4 MASTER CUTOFF
Mandatory when battery is relocated, or as outlined in Class
Requirements. An electrical power cutoff switch (one only) must be
installed on the rearmost part of each vehicle and be easily
accessible from outside the car body. This cutoff switch must be
connected to the positive side of the electrical system and must
stop all electrical functions including magneto ignition. The off
position must be clearly indicated with the word “OFF.” If switch is
“push/pull” type, “push” must be the action for shutting off the
electrical system, “pull” to turn it on. Any rods or cables used to
activate the switch must be minimum 1/8-inch diameter. Plastic or
keyed switches prohibited. Switches and/or controls must be
located behind rear wheels on rear-engine dragsters.

On a '68 Road Runner, I mounted the switch in/through the rt back-up lamp lens. Access hole for bulb lines right up. It was a bit tricky but I didn't want to drill holes in the car. I used a spare tail lamp housing & lens but the chrome bezel was stock.
You can also mount the switch under the rear bumper using a bracket, but a wheelstand will cause a problem; been there, done that.

Tom,I was looking at some of the push /pull setups.
I think I might be able to get the rod go beside the license plate.
I am going to put the gas tank in 1st and what fits.

My rod is beside the license plate. Switch is in the trunk. It also has a cable going into the driver area. Can be turned off inside or outside. Very helpfull when you forget to turn the power back on or need to kill it yourself.

Nice looking bell-crank set-up, did you fab it or source it somewhere?

Thanks, Joe

Fabbed. Made from 3/8 fuel line tubing with a couple tabs I made up. Connects to the switch with a compression fitting that is cut in half. The cable is generic as are the cable mounting tabs.

Dont know if you can do like I did. But I wont drill a hole in my car or bumper so I drilled a hole in the taillite lens. I have spare lens if I ever want to take it out. My bulb is in the center so the way I mounted mine all the lites still work normal and all I messed up is the taillite lens by drilling a hole in it. Ron

I have the switch mounted to the battery box. I know most put it on the right side but the cable and box was given to me and the battery cable would not reach the right rear so I put it on the left side. Works fine for my mild street car. Ron

What about mounting it in the trunk lock hole? You could then use an electric truck latch to still be able to open the trunk.

I had a '64 Polara with the two piece rear finish panel and had the battery mounted in the trunk behind the right rear tire. I never did put a switch in the car and moved the battery back under the hood when I sold it. I was at the track one day and saw a serious race '64 Polara and the owner had drilled a hole in a perfect finish panel and mounted switch there...I just about cried!!! Those panels are impossible to find without pits. I built a new bumper for my Ramcharger, it adds ballast and the switch is protected.

Thanks, took all day to fab,fit-rework until it was good.
I am happy with it.
Except for the label I will have to put on the bumper. Practically un noticeable .

That looks good. Its funny what some of us will go through to get things done on or cars the way we like. Here is my on-off sticker that is on the bumper and you can barely see it. Nice work ! Ron
