Jumped in the Barracuda last night with my son for a drive up to the local drag strip about 40 mile up the road, great little drive but as we pull in the power steering starts to crap it self and I think I can smell burning oil !! Park up in the pits and find the pulley on the pump flopping around on the shaft so I guess the keyway has failed or something.
On the other side of the engine we notice the alternator belt in slack and see that the bolt that holds the swing adjuster to the timing cover is gone. After finding another 3/8 bolt we could not get it to start in the thread $#^**@*!!! thing, turns out the bolt had snapped and the thread was still in there. frown
The sun had gone and we knew we had to get it home, we cut the belt off the power steering and found ratchet strap to pull some tension into the alternator belt. Could not do anything about the oil coming from the timing cover and just kept a eye on the pressure for the strip home, limped in around 11pm thumbs

To get the left over thread out of the timing cover hole, Im thinking I have to pull the radiator, water pump, harmonic balancer and then the timing cover , just worried about the sump gasket and resealing .

nothing grey threebond won't fix Al.
if its a Saginaw style (69 and later) late pump that is a cheapish fix , same guts as commodore/falcon .
right angle drill should solve space issues .
Good luck , sorry to hear .
Hope i'm not posting next week , first T&T on Saturday . Only going to be 45degC eek

Try using a spring loaded punch to unscrew the broken bolt, works most of the time.

I cant remember. Do the upper timing cover blot holes in the block pass right through to the oil side or are the blind ?
