I have a Street Dominator intake for my W2 stroker (414ci). I know the street dominator has a poor rep for standard heads but this W2 version looks OK to me? My application will be in my street/strip (mostly street) Challenger vert, engine should be 450-500HP.
What do you guys think, is there a much better intake for this combo or should I stay with this one. I'm not looking to spend money for the sake of it, but if this is a weak link then no point in compromising the other money I spent on the rest of the engine. Hood clearance allowing, I'd plan to use a spacer, and also will do some port matching and deflashing on the intake.

Also (confession time - I have a sneaking hankering to try out one of DS thermoquads on this engine!!!! If I did I'd either need an intake which allowed a spreadbore too, or I guess I could use an adaptor - but I have heard bad things about those..........?

On my 416 I stared with an E-brock victor W2 and the car eventually ran 11:08 @ 120 mph. I purchased an Indy that had been ported by RyanJ(also did my heads). It too eventually ran 11:08 @ 119 mph. I talked with a gentleman at a Mopar event in Tulsa last Nov. He ask me if I had tried a Holley. I hadn't and he believes they are the best. I know RyanJ like the Victor and the Super Victor. I would run the Holley and see if it will accomplish your goals. If it doesn't run as expected then try a different manifold. There are alot of other things that can help these motors besides the manifold. IE hood scoop, carb spacers, timing and valve lash. Just have to get it runnung and only try 1 new thing at a time and keep a log book. Jim

I have never used the dominator but have used the
Indy and liked it but I also had a dom adapter on
it so that added more plenum volume. What size carb
are you using with your currant manifold. I have used
the holley intake and didnt like it at all

I've never run a W-2 engine so I can't comment on how the different
intakes perform but, as far as moving air on a flowbench the Holley
Strip Dominator sucks. (pun intended)

Years ago, it was the only one available and there were some good
running W-2 engines.

Good input, keep it coming
I don't have a current carb as the engine isn't built, but I'll be looking around the 800-850cfm range I think.

Well I thought the Strip Dominator was a better intake than this Street Dominator, and if that sucked......
(Interestingly from your pic it looks like the Strip D has a dual pattern carb mount, even though mine doesn't...but not sure the profiled opening wouldn't foul a TQ's secondaries?)

I had an INDY 360-3R but, it doesn't match the factory W-2 port.

Modified/ported INDY works great on a W-5 though.

i have used various intakes on the w2's.depends on what your intentions are as to what to use.the indy i believe is the best for all out racing if it has been fully ported.it has the longest runners and a large plenum but it is too tall for your application.the victor W2 is a very good manifold with decent length runners which have thick round dividers and a good size plenum, much shorter than the indy.the strip dominator is ok but has a smaller plenum, shorter runners with thin dividers which are usually knife edged which makes the runners "act like" they are longer than they are.what you have will probably be good enough with a little blending.i've seen no problem running a T.Q.adapter on the street or racing.some say to use it as is but i always blend it to fit the manifold.a good T.Q. is hard to beat for street/strip it will get great fuel mileage yet make all the power you want.

I like Edelbrock's Victor 340 on the standard head. The Victor W-2, oval
port exit and bolt pattern is all that makes them different.

If you want something trick..put a W-8 intake on it..I have seen it done and looks cool..takes alot of cutting and welding..

Richard O-Malley did one for a guy that raced a demon in KOS one year..His name was Eric Anderson..

For a 450-500 HP Street 4" crank motor, just run the SD you already have, you'll never know the difference between it & anything else. If it was a drag motor that would be a different story. It's certainly not a great race manifold, but was designed for what you are going to do with it.

For race motors I either use the Victor W2 or the INDY depending on intended application. I don't build many W2 motors anymore (almost everyone runs aluminum these days), although I am finishing 2 up right now for the dyno. 367" With Holley Pro Dominator & pair of 650's & a 357" Limited late model with a Victor W2. I did 2 W2 motors last year, Both 408's one had an ICH 360-3O manifold & the other a Victor. The bigger cam/more compression motor got the ICH. The low comp/smaller cam one got a victor.

Dynoing the Pro Dominator motor should be interesting.... UNPORTED 1977 W2's... I think it will make some neat #'s

Usually the INDY 360-3O depending on cubic inch & intended application....

I didn't see the HP numbers you were looking for..Sorry about that..We used to run strip and street dominators on our W-2 motors years ago..

The W-8 manifold was a neat deal..for a max effort W-2 motor..

Eric Anderson's old 9.20" R3 W2 motor blew up & that block is now becoming Mike Gray's new 417" W8 N20 motor that I should have on dyno fairly soon. Anderson's was 48* W2 deal, the normal W2 intakes don't fit a 48* 15* valve angle W2 correctly, you have to modify them even on the tall deck. There is only one 9.20" W2 manifold, the MP M1, it's an OK piece I have a couple here, but for max effort short deck deal, yeah you need to do a W8 style manifold. Dealing with the water outlets & valley tray is biggest hassle there. The newer W2's not too bad, the water passages are small enough you can easily drill/tap them for NPT to AN fittings.

The Victor is 4.250" in the front and 5.500" in the back. (Straight edge across carburetor flange to block)

INDY is 7.00" front and rear.

The Victor actually is shorter than a Performer RPM.

If that's correct? Maybe Ryan can read a tape measure better than me.

Yes, the Victor is angled.
