Tired of all my cars being set up and street strip cars and on this car I hate the Foose wheels. I'm thinking of changing my 70 Coronet to a Pro Touring/driver. Probably set it up on air ride and 4 link as I get more serious with mini tubs. What is your wheel and tire combos with picture please?

18 x 9" Mikey Thompson SC-5. They're for Mustangs and have a +22 mm offset or a +32 mm offset.

On a B-body I would use at least 18x9.5 if not 18x10's in the front. Think go-cart like in terms of response. 275-295 wide tires in the front and rear or 315-335 in the rear. My Dart has 18x9 275-35-18 fronts and 18x12 335-30-18 rears. It does things a Dart never should.

My 70 Charger has 18x9 fronts, 275-40-18 Nitto NT05s. Rear is an 18x10 with a 295-45-18. I'm tempted to switch to a 295-40 out back because the 45 series sidewall looks a bit bulbous to me sometimes.

My 70 charger has 18x10 FR500s currently. I had to add a 10mm spacer in the rear. They are temporary until can decide which wheels to go with. The tires are Nitto 555s. 275/40 front and 295/45s rear. I do have some very slight rubbing at the inside of the front tires. But, I am running a Borgeson steering box and I'm sure that's part of the rubbing. I just finished installing the suspension, brakes and running gear, but so far so good and I've pushed the car pretty hard since breaking in the engine.

If you go with a 2 piece wheel you can have the exact back spacing built into the wheel...no spacers needed and you can center the wheels in the wheel wells just how you want to maximize size and minimize rubbing...

true but two piece wheels are stupid expensive! the wheel spacers were are $100/pair and the enkei's were only $1200. The minute your looking at custom offsets your around the $3000 mark, I would love to order a set of custom offset 18x11 0 offset would be perfect!

Wow, wheels are expensive up there ! $750 a wheel sounds high unless they are a full on forged race wheel or something?

Other option you could keep in mind is looked for used one, it's easy enough to have back spacing or even bolt patterns changed if the price is right on a set of existing wheels. (Or even just changing outers to different widths)

Non-Mopar but I run these, and they are a forged center (with spun as normal) outer; wheel. I bought the last of the centers the company had made so no more of them around. I know a guy who does a cast version (2 piece) now...not as strong but still pretty decent. (and most all of the 1 piece stuff that is less expensive is cast anyways)

I have about $600 in all four wheels. I purchased them from American Muscle to get an idea for back spacing and caliper clearance.

American Racing Mustang wheels 18x9 +35 with 275-35-18 all the way around.

I had the centers deepened and the outside machined for the rocket racing domed caps.

Yes custom offsets are really expensive (my forged wheels cost $1100 per rim!) but that is the key that opens up to what is actually able to fit under our cars. In order to fit the widest tires sizes it will require a custom offset. Also I feel that our old B & E bodies can easily fit a 10-10.5" rim as anything less and you are literally leaving a bunch of meat on the table.

Since wheel and tires are the only things on the car that touch the road, I made sure that mine were as strong as possible. No way some investment cast made in china wheel is touching my rides. Not going to risk my safety at the track either.

To me it's money well spent and if one is fortunate enough to be able to get custom wheels I say go for it!

Hey Emil! Not yet, still on 295's
I'm debating on whether to use them for the last time at the 2017 Spring Fling track day at Willow Springs.
My 295's still have good tread on them but are a few years old and may have heat cycled out already?
The 315's will need more neg camber and higher ride height adjustments hopefully they dont rub too bad!

These were with the Nitto 555s. I now have the Nitto NT 05s but the sizes are the same.

You bought that car from Steve. It's a really nice ride. A lot of effort went into that thing.

Don't be afraid to make it yours but definitely take care of it.

Frankenduster -- your 70 Charger is awesome and beautiful! I used to own a daily driver 70 500.. drove it coast-coast on a vacation.

Thanks, Mitch. I enjoy the car. I've considered a few changes in the interest of better street manners. I had a Gear Vendors overdrive but removed and sold it 2 years ago. I may consider a SST A41 type 4 speed OD someday.

Would you mind telling us your rim / tire sizes under the charger Frankenduster? Looks fabulous fitting! As the whole charger does!

Thanks for the kind words. I often get people telling me that a 15" Cragar or Ralleye would be better but I like a car to corner better than a 15" tire would allow. I had 16" IROC wheels on a mildly prepped 76 Camaro , that car had 245-50-16s and handled great. When I bought this Charger, my goal was to surpass that Camaro in every way. Power, appearance and performance. I'm just a working guy like most so money isn't flowing like rain water in Seattle.
The wheels on the Charger are made by Intro Wheel Company in Monrovia CA. They were not cheap but they had the look that I wanted. In 2003 they were approximately $2000. The design was newwhen I bought them and I expected the prices to fall a bit over time. They have not. They are still not cheap. I like the traditional 5 spoke look but these are called "Twisted Vista" because they have curved spokes to appear like the heels are trying to outspin the car. They are directional too. This means since the front and rears are different widths, each wheel is specific to each corner. To the point: Fronts are 18x9 with 4 3/4" backspace. Tires in these pictures are a 275-40-18 Nitto 555 with a 300TW. The rears are 18x10 with the same 4 3/4 BS. The axle in these pictures is a 66-67 B body unit which is something like 5/8" narrower overall as compared to a stock 68-70 B body. Rear tires are the same Nitto 295-45-18 in the 300 TW.

Frankenduster, I think you mentioned before that you switched to an 11" converter and really liked it on the street. Which brand did you go with?
My 9.5" Dynamic works great but with 3.23 gears I want something tighter, especially if I go with an overdrive eventually.

Hello,
I dealt with Lenny Crouteau at Ultimate Converter Concepts. They were a sponsor here, they may still be. I also run a 3.55 gear.
Still loving it!

I put some replica minilites on mine from ET wheels in the Oakland, CA area. They have off the shelf sizes and will do custom offsets. http://www.etmags.com/lt_iii.html

nstlg1970 -- your rims (and car) are stunning!!!!!! I love the minilite rims (I have 2-sets... 15x8 for cruising and 16x8 for HSAX/road course lapping)... may someday get the same ~18"ers that you have!

For any of those guys with the 18" meats on an A-body. With a tape measure, can any of you tell me what the outside tire to outside tire measurement is?

No expensive stuff here, I'm running ESR wheels. 18x9.5 +22 up front, 18x10.5 +22 rear. One inch spacers on all 4 corners, 3/4 probably would have been better in the rear, but I'm cheap and bought them off cl locally for $50. Tires are 274/35_18 Bridgestone potenzas up front, 295/45-18 nitto nt555s rear. Picture is test fit, note front caps don't fit, but do now with the brake upgrade.

Ross your car is stunning and I watched your build on fabo. Alot of guys would be in awe here if they saw all the fab work you did on it. Everything serves a well thought out purpose.

Mopar to the bone!!!

I also watched it on FABO (813Demon340), the build is incredible. I'm glad to see you finished it and didn't sell it.

Heres my Valiant with 17x8 Mustang wheels on it, once the weather gets better I'll throw the Konig's back on with the 275's on it

1968 Dart
18 x 9" wheel, +17mm offset
255/40/18 Michellin SS tires
Stock A-body 8 3/4 length
Stock leaf spring location
BBP axles from Dr Diff
11.75" disc brake kit from Dr Diff
Factory Tolerances

I measured about 62.5"-63" outside tire to outside tire. Tolerance is trying to guesstimate tire buldge. It's tight underneath my car and we did some minor fender rolling, but we couldn't do too much due to the trim.

Is that Tim's Valiant? Must have changed hands again. Last guy who had it lived in northern CA.

That car has been passed around like the town pump. Three Moparts members alone, plus Andy F as an associate as well.
I wonder why? It seems like a bad ass ride.

Sublimehemi -- Having recently seen your car in person, its one of the most awesome and beautiful Mopars out there!!! It deserves to be featured in the magazines, etc! I hope to see it perform on a road race course (HSAX/HPDE)!
