I ran one years ago. The ratchet mode is only accessible from first gear, and only goes forward two gears from there, so there are limits to what you can do with the ratchet mode. It seemed a little Mickey Mouse to me. I think it's more suited to a fully auto valve body that's just going to be in drive most of the time. Like any B&M shifter however, it offered a pretty solid feel. I'd consider it more of a "performance LOOK" shifter than a real performance piece. I now run a quicksilver and much prefer it.

I have the Quick Silver in it now and I dont like
it.. I hate that you have to lift the shifter when
your in drive.. it wouldnt be bad if you had to lift
it from neutral to get into reverse or park.. I just
cant get use to lifting it in drive.. this is for a
90% street car... thanks... plus its a shorter shifter
arm.. I want a shorter arm

Use to have one in the Scamp, worked great. switched it out for PPP.
No issues at all except burning cables but that was my fault.

Thanks.. now I would like to see if it uses the
same mounting holes.. that would save me from
pulling up the carpet and welding up another
mount... I do like that it has both detent and
ratchet

They weren't in the same car, Mike. So I can't say for sure that they are identical mounts. But I know they're very similar. If I had to bet I'd say yes.

I have the Pro Ratchet on the race car and love
it but on my standard auto I want a detent shifter
and that Star gives me both detent and ratchet

Hi Mr.P, If you you have all the pieces I may be interested in your Quick Silver shifter. Please PM me a price if you are interested. Thinking it may be a good choice to mount under a stock console in a 65 b body.

I wore a used one out. Put in a Mega Shifter for four disastrous passes. Took it out and bought a new Star shifter. Love it.

Just personal opinion, but I hate "gimmicky" shifters like the Star, Quick Silver, etc. I think, but not positive that the Star and Quicksilver work exactly the same, except one you lift handle, other you pull trigger to get same functions

I just cant get use to the Quick Silver.. I am
always trying to lift the shifter when in neutral
so I'll try the Star.. if I dont like it I'll move
onto something else.. my issue is its mainly a
street car but I like a ratchet when I race... I'll
see how it goes

I've run the star shifter for 12+ years., first with a shift kit VB and then a forward pattern manual VB. It's got it quirks as mentioned, but as long as your paying attention you shouldn't have a problem. I personally like the two modes and the way the lock out works.I'm not sure if the bolt pattern is the same. I think you'll like the star shifter though I've never had an issue with it that wasn't operator error. up

Instructions say it can't be used with a reverse pattern.... if that's what you have

You have to lift the T handle to get it into reverse or park and also into ratchet mode. You don't have to do anything with the shifter handle for gear changes with this shifter. Sorry I took so long to respond. I'm glad to be able to help you, I appreciate all the help and knowledge you've shared with me when I have questions.

Do you have to lift the handle when in neutral
or does it have to be in drive to get to reverse
or park.. my Qiuck Silver has to be in drive...
thats the part I'm trying to get away from.. if
its from neutral that you lift it thats fine
thanks

I just went out to the garage to verify, you can shift from neutral to reverse or park. The only time you need the t handle in drive is for a downshift or to swap from detent to ratchet modes. up
