I am thinking about buying a 2016 RAM Eco Diesel.I could use some real world opinions about reliability, towing and real fuel
mileage. Thanks

I have a 2015 Ecodiesel 4 wd crew cab Big Horn 4wd with Ram Boxes

Mixed driving yields 23 mpg over the roughly 25k miles I have driven it. It has a tow package but I have not towed with it yet. I have seen others go 900 Miles on one tank of diesel.

payload capacity is quite limited once you load it with options. I believe my max payload is 1050# and that includes passengers. With 600# of tongue weight that leaves little for me my family and gear.

Here is the best forum I have found.

http://www.ram1500diesel.com/forum/ram-1500-ecodiesel-forum/

A number of people have blown up their motors but I have had no issues. Plus it seems like people with issues tend to post on forums. People have been quoted 30k for a new motor by a dealership.

There have also been numbers of water/oil cooler failures which fill the cooling system with oil.

The oil changes used to be brutal with a 10.5 quart change, 60$ filter and Eurospec diesel oil but they changed the oil spec to Rotella T6 which is less expensive.

2017 Production may not have started based on EPA wanting to re-certify most small replacement diesel.

The mileage drop off from 3:55 to 3:91 appears to be minimal so I would strongly consider the 3:91 if you will be towing.

Any other questions ask away!

Thank you!

Kevin

I have a 2016 quad cab Eco Diesel and pull a 23' trailer with 6100 lb dry weight. The truck not only does very well pulling, it continues to deliver great mileage even though I haven't verified the numbers while pulling. The brakes are incredible. Between the "Towing / Hauling" button that changes shift points and the 8-speed automatic, I can't speak highly enough of my truck. I also opted for the "trailer package" which came with the pivoting trailer mirrors (very nice), integrated trailer brake controller, Class 1V hitch and lower rear-end gears.

I forgot to mention that mine is a 2WD. I didn't want 4WD and didn't want the added weight and gear drag.
