If my '01 Cummins Ram sits for a while, at cold start it will idle rough for just a second or two as soon as it fires, then clears right up. Runs fine, starts fine hot, only does it when it is cold.
Does this sound like a leaky injector?

I have not checked to see if any codes have been set yet. No check engine light on or anything, although I'm told there can be a code set and the light not be on?
Truck has 210k on it, aftermarket lift pump setup w/ gauge, small Edge programmer (always in the tow setting). Pretty sure the IP was changed before I bought it at 160k miles.

Rarely see an injector issue on an early 24 valve. I would be looking for a fuel supply or fuel drain back issue. You might try parking it nose up and then nose down on a grade and see if it makes any difference on the first start. The injector connector tube orings are common to leak internally in the cylinder head and cause hard or rough start issues.

OK, thanks! I may have an idea of what's going on now...looks like I may have a slight leak on the rig I have for my fuel pressure gauge. I used a hose from a fuel pressure test kit, screwed onto the port at the pump, then put the FP sending unit on the end of the hose...w/ a shutoff valve to keep from damaging the sender from the hammer effect.

Is there a better way of doing this? Some sort of banjo adapter fitting the sender will screw onto?

I was kinda hoping it was an injector issue so I'd have an excuse to go w/ some 50 or 75 horse injectors, lol.

Just ordered a kit from Vulcan to eliminate the setup I'm currently running. Hopefully this'll help. At the very least, it'll be a cleaner looking setup.

Update...I finally got time to install the Vulcan big line kit from the fuel filter to the IP and the issue seems to be gone.
I found there was a small leak w/ how I hooked up my fuel pressure gauge to the inlet at the injection pump allowing the fuel to drain out if the truck sat for a while.
It is a much better and cleaner looking setup now.

Thanks for the advice 71yelladustr!
