Machinist advice:

I have an Indy Legend Hemi engine with the RA1 (raised port) heads, and it currently has the Indy - 2 intake manifold with a single carburetor and the Cast Aluminum valley cover with inspection cover.

Here is the question:

I am wanting to keep the valley/inspection cover, however the new Edelbrock dual quad EFI intake (Air gap) has the intergral valley cover cast into the intake...is it possible to mill off the valley cover so that I can keep the Indy cast valley cover?

The intake has 2 bolts per port (8 per side) so I think it would seal well...maybe?

What do you all think about this plan?

Thanks, Mark

I have the Indy valley tray on my Hemi, and went to a Barton SP Dominator intake that had the valley tray cast into it.

IO removed the valley tray myself and just kept using the Indy one.

Works fine, less weight too wink

This is with Indy 426-1 heads.

Hi Lad,

I want to know if I can remove the cast in tray on the Edelbrock dual quad EFI intake, and not have any warpage or leak problems...I guess yours works out good?

Any pictures of before and after?

Thanks, Mark

Hi

Forst pic is with the Barton intake sitting on the engine with the Indy Valley tray under it,the second pic is after I removed the cast in valley tray on the Barton intake.

No issues/leaks etc....has sealed up well with the normal procedure to install a Hemi intake with repeated torquings till it takes a set. Hope the pics help smile

Hi Lad,

I assume you used a mill to remove the cast valley plate?

Also, did you need to make sure that the bottom edges press down on the sides of the Indy plate, and use RTV for sealing?

Thank you for your help!

LE...

I cut the plate off with a super thin cutting disc on my angle grinder. Marked it out and went at it slowly with straight and clean cuts.

Then cleaned it up with a flap wheel.

The Indy valley plate fits to the block under the cyl heads where they mate to the block deck. It is sealed with hi temp RTV so the bottom edges on this intake are not what is holding the valley plate down.

Hope this helps up
