Just heading out from Phoenix to Tulsa. Should have left two days ago, but the pictures my brothers sent me convinced me to stay out here and work on my own stuff longer.

I'll stop over at Tulsa, regroup, help them and then leave with barely enough time to roll into National Trail, and get in the back of the tech line by 1pm.

Ahhhh, and now is that odd time in the final hours before Drag Week check in when the posts go silent, as the long haulers cross the countryside in pursuit of their dreams of speed and glory. The procrastinators and unlucky broken ones flail about for what seem to be unending hours in desperation to complete and hopefully compete. And the rest of us ponder in silence before heading out: "Will this car hold together all week?".

Joel and I are in a mad thrash right now! NOTHING takes the amount of time you think. Joel had to have a drive shaft made this morning, and we have it now. We are prepared to work through the night and have the HEMI ready!

You betcha, I will have lots more adjustments to learn and make this year but they can be typed in going down the road.

Joel is making sure he takes care of the important details, while his trunk monkey is actually getting something done.

I should be good to go...heading down to Columbus tomorrow.

But my sense of being over-prepared has me nervous that I am overlooking something big...haha

Driving it to the event....... That's the spirit!!

Well we finished everything on Joel's HEMI GTX last night around 1:00am, but the car would not fire. No spark. After about a hour of tracking down the culprit, we had spark! The HEMI lit right up, but then we had a much bigger problem. Low oil pressure. It only made 10lbs at idle and with some rpm, it could only get maybe 20lbs. Joel had ordered grooved lifters for the engine, but the block has stock non bushed lifter bores. With the cam lift, the groove is bleeding off pressure by coming out of the bore. No way we could fix it. So... It was decided at 3:00am to get Joel's HEMI GTX convertible that we took to Drag Week last year, out of storage and still make the trip.

When we picked the car up, it had a very noticeable exhaust leak. At 10:00am I made it back to Joel's and we got the car up on the hoist. I think this car still had the original gaskets in it.

With a new gasket, oil change and 4 hours of sleep we are on our way. Going to try and get through Wisconsin and Illinois tonight.

Not the Drag Week 2016 we wanted, but with Joel it will still be a fun adventure.

Good luck today to all those who made it down to Columbus for Drag week. I hope all the testing goes well today and everyone has there cars ready for the start of DW tomorrow.
Ill be making the trek down to Columbus in the morning and looking forward to seeing just what DW is all about.
