Is there any good reason to paint the underside of a small block intake with high temp paint?

Other than to seal up any potential pin holes that would give you trouble in tuning eg vacuum leak, no. If you elect to paint, use glyptol paint, I used it on the bottom of my MW intake and that stuff is like iron, its not coming off at all. Just make sure your surfaces are completely grease free.
