I posted this in the General Section but since not everyone goes there I wanted to post it here also.

Since our local car club is helping host the Monster Musclecar Weekend at Gateway International Raceway on October 1st and 2nd 2016 they asked if I could post on Moparts about the event.

I know it's only a month away now, not much real warning but the negotiation with the track were only finalized two weeks ago.

As many will already know Phil Painter (Mopars/Musclecars at the Strip) is the promoter for the event.

Phil hopes to make this a "you'll want to attend" type of event with everything that he has planned in the way of vendors, racing classes and car show display cars.

This is a copy of the newest flyer that Phil just emailed to me listing racing classes and payouts, show classes and other information.

Online registration is now open at http://www.matslv.com/ and you can download any of the flyer or forms there.

Edit: The link to mmwstl.com wasn't working so I updated it to the http://www.matslv.com/

Feel free to discuss or ask questions.

This was asked in the General Forum, I thought people here would be interested also.

I just emailed your vendor list question to Phil.

I know he told me "Arrington Performance" will have a booth there.

I'll post more when I hear back from him.

Some people aren't happy with what went down with the last guy that had a Mopar race at Gateway. Kinda like what happened at Quaker City Ohio. See how well that worked out for them this year.

1970 Duster
Edelbrock headed 408
5.984@112.52
422 Indy headed small block
5.982@112.56 mph
9.42@138.27

Livin and lovin life one day at a time

If you're referring to Josh King, Phil Painter has been talking to Josh the whole time he's been trying to set up this event.

If people are avoiding it because it not Josh's event that would be a mistake.

People boycotted Mega Mopar at Gateway for that reason.

If they foolishly boycott this event for those reasons it doesn't make any sense.
Phil says he and Josh talk all the time.

Phil is the one stepping up and spending about $100,000 to do this event.
If it fails, odds are there won't be another new Mopar type event at Gateway ever.

If people don't want to go just because it's at Gateway and they hold a grudge because they feel Josh was wronged maybe it's time to get past that.

Not going will hurt Phil and his event and eliminates the chance of there being a second event here by Phil.

If people have issue with something about this event, they should man up and politely state them.
They can't be addressed if no one know them.

If someone has a problem, speak up.

This will be a guaranteed failure. We are in a recession and these clowns are charging $160 for $1250 to win in Pro, $160 for footbrake for $500 to win. S/Pro isn't real ugly but still high. I can tell he has been talking with the new, [but not better], MMW promoter. He should be talking with the original MMW promoter. I just raced for $5000 in S/Pro saturday for $100 entry fee, and $60 for $2000 to win footbrake. Now if these entry fees for this race were for purse on saturday and the same purse again on sunday, maybe??????

I had high hopes that this would be a good replacement for the former MMW at gateway, but at this format I will surely find somewhere else to race. Benton, [I-57], does $1000 to win FB for $40 entry every saturday night.

It says , bring your passion, bring your performance, bring your friends, but forgot to say cash in your 401K so you can afford it!!!

I sent an email to Phil saying that there were discussions about the Pro class payout.
I'm obviously not a serious racer (I'm there to play).

His response to the comments/questions is,

Quote:
We also have a progressive payout on Pro if there is a better than expected payout.

I'm thinking that what he meant is "We also have a progressive payout on Pro if there is a better than expected turnout". and auto-correct on his phone changed turnout to payout. shruggy

He wants $85 to run No-Box for $500 to win Saturday, then $150 to run Pro on Sunday? Plus buy-backs? He should seriously re-think this, tell him to call Mike Beard and get the entry fees more realistic.

Charlie is correct. No racer will pay that entry for that payout.

Look at "foot brake".........$150 entry to win $500. Semis is only $125. Get to 4 cars and doesn't even get the entry back. Who in their right minds would pay these entry fees for such low payouts

I still do this for fun and if the event is held next year, I may consider traveling to it. their lead time was a bit short this year, and I'm currently following the Hot Rod Heritage series out here on the west coast so it really wasn't "do-able" this fall.

What ever the race payout is, 1/2 are out first round. Second round, same deal. If you look at those odds, why would you ever leave home? I go to race and have a good time, and I would race for bottle caps.

Hope this is a big event and everybody has a good time.

The event got some online ink.
http://www.dragzine.com/news/monster-musclecar-weekend-returns-to-st-louis-october-1-2/

Monster Musclecar Weekend Returns To St. Louis October 1 & 2

Gateway Motorsports Park in St. Louis is the location for Monster Musclecar Weekend coming up this October, and it promises to be bigger and better this year with a Mopars vs. The World Drag Racing event, new this year to put the fastest Mopars on the track and ask the blue oval and bow tie fans to come get some.

Traditionally an all Mopar event, the gates are opening up on October 1 & 2 for all musclecar fans and owners who want to be a part of this huge weekend event. There will still be a Mopar judged car show, as well as an open field for all makes and models.

Promoters JP Motorsports are also adding four specialty race events to the schedule to celebrate the modern musclecars of today from the Big 3. These are exciting times, and with the level of performance coming from Chevrolet, Ford, and Mopar, it’s going to be a true tale of who’s the best.

The Pony Car Wars will pit Camaro vs. Mustang vs. Challenger for 2006 and newer, with all power-adders welcome and legal in this dial class. The Arrington Performance New Hemi Challenge is open to all modern or Hemi powered vehicles. This year, Monster Musclecar Weekend (MMW) is looking to crown the Fastest Hellcat vehicle, so if you think your Hellcat has what it takes, this is the place for you to put up or shut up.

In keeping with the recent changes we shared at the Las Vegas event, MATS, MMW also aims to bring not only modern musclecars to the venue, but to provide other makes and models to participate is all part of the plan. Promotor Phil Painter knows that today’s modern musclecars have earned a spot in the continuing musclecar wars just like we some some four decades ago. Except this time, Monster Musclecar Weekend says “bring your friends” and enjoy a great weekend of racing, showing, swapping parts, and promoting the hobby that keeps us all entertained.

Registration is open now, so head over to the Monster Musclecar Weekend website and get you and your friends registered and plan for a fun, all musclecar weekend.
