I went through about 20 pages of the "Real world weight reduction" post. Several pictures of K members that were boxed and shaved of several pounds. Looking at my F body(Aspen), the Iso suspension takes the torsion bars and runs them L to R. Looking for a way to shave some weight. I have a BB that will be going in. Can't see doing 5K for an Alterkation swap, and they don't give enough front end travel to make Cal Tracs work. If there is an alternative, I'm willing to listen.

Would that setup lend itself easier to a coil over setup than a standard style torsion bar setup? From there, lightening the K member shouldn't be too difficult.

If the Aspen K's are the same as the M bodies like the Fury's and Diplomats, then I would say that the K is heavier than the older traditional longitude torsion bar designs and would benefit from a modest diet if a coil over system can be introduced to remove the torsion bars.
Torsion bars in general are a bit heavy, but then again, they hold up the front of the car.

I was in on the design of that and built the first
few dozen... if you start cutting the center that whole
thing will bend... plus your putting a BB in it... try
to go with a coil over and add a front reaction rod and
then you can start making it lighter

There you go from experience itself. I myself out of all people have not lightened my K member other than removing my original motor mounting bosses which I wasn't needing with a motor plate in place. Everything else is virgin Mopar.
Like Mr.P-body mentioned and I suspected, removing the T-bars with a coil over replacement is probably the extent that you will be allowed as far as weight cutting.
I'm still looking for a stainless K. Though those were prone to cracks, but on wheel standing cars.

Good luck.

Mike, what is a "front Reaction rod"?

I did cut the center out of my K-frame on Randy's GTX to clear a full oil pan, and used 11ga Chrome Moly plate tigged in...hope it don't bend.

On the 1968 Super Bee that I just acquired, it has a new Alterkation Strret/strip kit in it, and I assume that I would need this "front reaction rod" for it?

If Randy's K-frame bends, then I will get an Alterkation kit for his car too.

BR, Mark

You dont have to worry... what he has is F or M
body style transverse torsion bar set up... when
the factory went with this system in their WISE
decision wanted it lighter.. they used lighter
weight material and in short order they had a recall
to weld a 1/4 plate to the bottom... those transverse
bars have a LOT of pressure on them... they do make a
great hot rod front end but dont go cutting on them
