Make sure and get a tool steel wrist pin that will live with your new build scope twocents

That's an easy purchase. The less reciprocating weight that I have the easier I'll feel about the crank.

Info that probably should have been included in the first post ???

running up my post count some more .

I've done this on 2 different sets of pistons, both were the old trw speed pro heavy slugs. One 318 the other was a 340. I sure spent a lot of time researching and fiddling with them. I don't do this anymore. I probably got 100 grams out of each piston. I also added lite weight pins. I believe the pins were distorting some due to the weight of the pistons as there was some gaulding seen on the freshen ups. I even cut through the underside and had the pistons heli arced. Both engines lasted quite a while one broke a crank after about 600 passes the other broke a rod after about 400 passes. Both motors had reworked stock rods and I shifted them at about 7500.I laugh at myself now as I wouldn't think about doing this again. For the time I spent on them I could have bought a good set of pistons. But money was tight.

Here's what makes this whole idea a bummer: 1 cubic inch of aluminum weighs 44.25 grams.

For a turbo build I'd run them stock and use a decent lighter rod. You can easily lose 100 grams from the rod.

I don't think you're going to have trouble with the crank if you keep the rpm down and don't detonate.

Make the wristpins too light and they start to deform. Tool steel deforms the same as mild steed. it just takes much more load to get it to change shape. Look for tapered wall pins or possibly research some other players and see what they do.
