How much effect dose it have on c.i.say 312deg on a 440 with a 11to1 comp motor to a 500c.i. motor with 12to 1 comp.Idle quality and street drivabilty.

A big cam will work in a bigger motor with more squeeze a lot easier. The bigger motor absorbs more of the duration and is able to use it. There is such a thing as to big of a cam for a certain motor. If the motor is small it will need more compression with the bigger cam to work best.

My car has slow 60ft times, which i think is down to the cam being too big, .280@50, 440 with 11-1 comp.

On the time posted 1.66, which is usual, if i can keep it in one piece this year i think it will go 10's, with a smaller cam maybe mid 10's.

I'm going to assume that the duration numbers you have posted is the advertised number and not the duration at .050, if this is the case what is the duration at .050 and lobe seperation angle of the cam your talking about? If it is the duration at .050 I wouldn't drive that cam on the street no matter what, way to big, IMO. Let us know either way

HI Cab that was 286 at 50 108 center line i put every bit of 8 thousand miles on that cam last year with the 440 and a best of 10.7 at the track.I've had good luck with M.P. cams,I do put a lot of magnets in my engines when I assemble them thougn. This year I wont to go to a roller.I have no experince with them, just trying to get a feel of what will work for my new engine.

Big motors like big cams, I'm sure the new motor will like the cam you have now a lot better than the old motor does. I tried a solid roller in my pump gas low conpression 518 C.I. that was 274@.050 on 106 LSA, the motor didn't like it on the dyno versus the old cam which was a dual pattern solid roller with 260@.050 intake and 266 @.050 0n the exhaust with 108 lsa I didn't run the bigger cam at the track or on the street, I took it out and put the old cam back in, chicken I guess I am putting the bigger cam in a higher compression motor now with better heads, more carburetion and less C.I.(464 C.I.)so it will be interesting to see the results. I will put the details on the motor as soon as I know when it will get dynoed and ask for comment and guesses on the results Lats thing is big motors like big camshafst, I would use the one you have now if it is availble, not in the old motor if the old motor is still together and usuable

286@.050 is pretty big especially for a 11to1 440. For example I run a cam that is 268@.050 but it was spec'd for a 451 and is currently is a 499. I know I can go bigger on the cam with 13.5to1 compression, but it runs pretty good. It really depends on where you want your power.
