I have seen rolls of soft copper straighted by stretching. Unroll, clamp to tree or something unmoveable and pull with a come a long or vechicle. Will work on soft copper, don't know about steel.

Roll it out flat against the floor. It can be very straight after doing so. I use a 2x6 board to keep it from having any "bumps" from any cracks in the concrete. Basically roll it out like a carpet with light pressure forcing down on the roll while someone holds the other end. Very easy!

That's gonna change the diameter of the tubing, very bad idea and advise.

Roll it out on the floor and you will be fine.
I have bought and installed 100s of rolls of copper tubing in my time, as I'm in the propane business.

roll out on the floor and if possible use a corner to keep it straight. Do NOT move bend or stretch any more than you absolutely must because you will work harden the piece. I used to work in refrigeration, one day I wasplaying with a scrap ofcopper tube. Two or three bends back and forth was all it took--couldn't really bend it after. If you do so, you will then have to use heat to anneal it. if it is "tinned" this can be very tricky

you don't have to pull copper hard enough to change the size. I said i didn't know about steel. You will have to use tubing benders after. I've unrolled a few rolls of soft copper in my time, never saw any come out straight enough that I would want to use on a car of mine.

The OP was asking about steel tubing, I don't know how we got onto copper.

I would never use copper anywhere on any of my cars, same with aluminum tubing. It don't belong on a street car.

I agree i wouldn' use copper either,Iwas just telling him the stretching process might work on steel tubing, but didn't know that it would.I realized he wasn't going to use copper on his car. Sorry if I confused anybody.

It matters not whether you're speaking of copper, steel, or what. You work it the same way. You do NOT stretch it.

Mine too.......

Set up a "dead man" get out your Crain pole stretcher and use the tubing stretcher attachment. Stretch until you get a slight bow in the poles..........

Why do you say that? What's wrong with aluminum tubing, it's a lot easier to work with...

Im my limited experience (aluminium and copper/nickel) you won't get a straight length by unrolling it flat - there is always a bit of 'memory' that will give you a slight bow to it. I found I had to actually bend it the other way very slightly to get it straight. And once you get into that a) it gets difficult to stop it from turning onto its side, and b) unless you have a former with a gentle curve it's tough to get a perfect result.

I got close enough (and I'm very fussy), but not 100% perfect

I've run aluminum line on my street car for over 20 years. Just upgraded to 1/2" aluminum. It should be supported every 20" with proper sleeve fittings on the ends. I just read about a tubing straighten tool recently but can't remember where. I usualy over bend it when coming off the roll, go in small increments and you can get it pretty straight.
