I added Eddy performer heads and a CH4B and now have a slight hood clearance issue, which was expected. I have read threads about using either a Ford Motorsports drop base and a shorter filter or a 69 unsilenced base, and I emailed Nick's garage as well, but wanted real world experience from someone with a 67 Coronet RT or GTX on how to keep the dual snorkel lid and get enough distance between airhorn and top of lid to keep some flow. Basically sandwich the odd base and filter to my stock lid... A part # would be great!

What are you using for a carb ?

If you used a stock tin valley pan it's the increased height of the intake causing your issue .

Is the aircleaner top rubbing the hood or do you have a hood pad ?

running up my post count some more .

I left out the vital piece in that I have an Eddy 750 with electric choke, so I am not sure how much I can drop without interfering.
Not sure if that Mancini base will cut it because it has a severe drop and may hit linkage and choke, but it looks promising. Have you used it Matt?
You are correct in that the intake raised it up a hair and it is hitting the hood pad to the point that I can smoosh it to close it, but don't want to. I still have a 1/4" spacer that I am reluctant to lose.

I haven't used it myself, you can buy an assorment of air filter "spacers" to raise it back up some. I think its a standard drop though, most are 1.5 inches, so you may have the same issue with any drop base. I had to run an aisr filter spacer with my drop base to avoid interference with the throttle linkage. Its either that or get a shorter filter I think. Sounds like you just need about half an inch though...

Or, space the K-frame down a wee bit.

Mancini's drop base plate will drop the air cleaner 1 inch. I just put one on my 440 Dart because my Edelbrock performer intake was pushing the air cleaner into my hood insulation pad. It work great. But not sure if it will work with your electric choke Eddy carb or a 67 air breather. Why not give Mancini a call and ask.

And what would that do to the suspension geometry? Might be opening up a bigger can of worms, especially if it's not just a drag racer.

They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

The most drop you can have on your base and still clear an Edelbrock choke is 3/4". I was able to fit a 1" drop base on mine with a little modification to the base. The base modification did require a slight mod to the air filter element too.

Great info. I will take a ball peen to it if need be. I guess I should get an aluminum one...

I actually had to cut/move/weld a small section to clear. That made the filter not fit. I had to grind a little of the rubber away where the filter made contact. There was already a notch there to clear a Holley carb. I just had to make the notch bigger.

This is good work. Mine will be much more crude but hope to get something done. Just don't to have to buy 3 different air cleaners and two bases to get it. Will get out some wood and clay today and try to measure from air horn to foam pad and then from air horn to choke and linkage. Without seeing the bottom of the bases it is difficult though.

Sorry to ask, but do you remember how tall your air filter is that you used??

I've got a 3" tall filter. Hood clearance is very tight on my Dart. I could have used a shorter filter but anything less than 3" doesn't look right IMO.

Thanks to all who helped. I finally got the Mancini 13" drop base and it worked perfectly. It clears the stock metal fuel line, the eddy electric choke, the coil, and the linkage! Just snipped 3/4" off of the stud bolt and good to go. Seems like I have plenty of head clearance for the carb.

I used a drop bottom that wasn't as large as the top dual snorkel but with a filter to match the bottom,it worked fine as all the air still had to come through the filter and the base was not visible..67R/T with a 440..now hemi

Exactly what I did. Glad to know it will work and still perform. How easy was the hemi swap. Not much room to work with my 440 and PS/PB. Getting off driver exhaust manifold a bear. Had to jack up motor.
