So I was going to upgrade my fuel system starting this weekend and I had a question.

Are any of you guys running 10's still unsing a factory fuel tank and pickup? I really dont want to run a fuel cell, I know that they are better but I want to keep things looking kinda factory.

Anyways what is the stock pick up good for? I am about 90% sure mine is a 3/8 feed. Do I need to go to a 1/2"? Is there a way I can modify this pickup? Weld a -10 or -8 fitting to it and a 1/2 pipe to sit in the fuel?

Oh motor makes about 600-620hp est.

As far as the rest of the system I was thinking -8 to the pump (havnt decided yet) -8 to a regulator mounted either on the firewall or apron, then 2x -6 to the 950HP and a -6 return line. Are these line sizes OK?

my e body was doing 10's with a stock tank but i had to run lots of fuel to prevent it sucking in air after the launch. by the time i shifted into 2nd the fuel press guage was at 0 & it would splutter then come back to life. that sputter cost me the win everytime. at the time i was running a holley blue by the tank on stock fuel lines but no return. any improvement in line sizes has to be a good thing but it can be done on stock sizes, just need a full tank of gas to do it. your upgrade on sizes is what i'm running now & no fuel issues to date.

I would use a 1/2 inch pick up in the tank and to the pump, 1/2 inch return, two #6s to the carb. is good. The #6 return will probally be okay, depending on the pump you use. I use a Magnafuel 300 pump on my Duster with a stock tank and a #10 from the bottom of the tank to the filter and to the pump, #8 return line welded into the tank in the stock location from the pump, #8 to the four port regulator mounted on the elephant ears(two piece motor plate) and three # 6 to the tri power carbs. I had a Magnefuel 275 pump on the car at first when the motor made 612 hp and I had to switch it to the 300 when I upgraded the heads, compression and increased the C.I. a little, this was detected by the Innovate LM1 showing the motor going lean at WOT I had treid to fatten up the jets and the AFR remained the same

so let me ask this. I really dont want to but a new sending unit. Has anyone tried to modify the stock pickup? I was thinkin I could use some 1/2" or 5/8" aluminum hard line for a pickup, then a hardline to AN fitting, then a AN fitting threw the sending unit. Return would just be a AN fitting secured to the sending unit.

Or could I just drill a few holes on the fuel tank for some AN fittings?

My 1/2 inch return line is in the same location in as the stock pick up was in the stock sending unit, we replace the 5/16 line with 1/2 inch stainless bent to empty into the bottom of the stock A body gas tank away from the sump that the #10 AN is in for the pick up to the pump and filter. I'm sure that you can install or have a 1/2 inch hard line installed in the stock unit or use a #8 AN bulkhead fitting and make a #8 AN soft or hard line work as the pick up. I wouldn't take a chance on using the stock pick up either, even if it is a 3/8 to start with. I have added a second pick up in the stock sending units to meet class rules in the past, I added a 3/8 pickup to the stock 5/16 and used a Y fitting to the pump from both pick ups, that work fine for a long time

Problem is the stock tank has no sump, and isn't really designed to keep fuel at the pickup. They make sumps you can tack onto the bottom of your tank, but they are visible from the outside.

Ya I understand that, not to worried about it as I dont plan on racing the car much, its a fun street car that may see the track a few times a year.

I have seen alot of people run deep in the 10's with 3/8 line. I agree the 1/2 is better to go with but depending how deep in the 10's you want to go the 3/8 may do the job. My son still has the stock 5/16 sending unit and line on his Dart running 11.40's. Ron
