I heard the engines will all have to have a Diaper attached to them from now on for any car running under 10.00. This may pose a problem for guys running rear steer with a drag link going through the oil pan. From what I understand, some manufacturers of the safety diapers wont make them for an application that has rear steer such as the type on the SS/AH cars because of a possible safety/interferance problem. Sounds to me like the rack and pinion should be used to make the cars safer to run with the diaper, let alone safer in general vs. 35 year old steering setups. Can You imagine the steering getting caught on the diaper, possibly ripping it off the engine or not allowing the car to steer off of the track. Anyone else heard about this????

I heard from a chassis guy that is local to my area that the first SS/AH car to go 8.49 that the NHRA was going to make all the cars in that category to step up to the new roll bar/cage regulations to conform to the sub 8.50 rules. There are going to be alot of mad SS/AH guys when/if this gets enforced; especially the cars that have been just recently finished.

That "rumor" is absolutely not true. I recently met with SFI Director of Safety Carl Olsen and discussed the 25.5 spec in depth and how it affected SS and particularly AH because we are building two new AH cars . He stated, after meetings with NHRA and Danny Gracia about this particular class and spec(25.5), that the SS cars will not be affected by the new spec for next year or the foreseeable future even if they dip into the magical 8.40 zone, period . Hi Mike! I don't profess to know all these chassis rules but have a question. I had a long conversation with a high-ranking tech official last week in regards to the chassis rules. He indicated to me that the SS/AH cars would be under the same sort of rules that Jeff Taylor ran into in Comp last year. NHRA told Jeff that if he ran below a certain number he'd be parked, he did and they did. Our current chassis is 8.50 rated and he advised me to get ours upgraded. Are we talking the same chassis rules here? I'm getting quite confused.
Also, on another subject, you have any more t-shirts available? You gave me an XL at Indy for Jared but it's too big. Can I send it back to you and trade it for a large?
Happy Thanksgiving.

Hey Julie how is your dad feeling, hopefully better. Is this normal for NHRA to appear to be so sketchy about new rules. Any idea how much this would cost per car, and what about the diaper deal. Jesse Quote:

Hi Jesse ~ Dad is feeling much better, thanks for asking! I think he's almost back to full strength again. I've asked for clarification on the diaper rule but, personally, I don't think it's applicable to SS yet, only "E.T." cars. But I've been wrong before. lol Will keep you posted.
There is a clarification on the Lucas Oil page of NHRA.com that says the diaper rule is only for Comp eliminator in 2007.

IMO, some of you might not know, but guys move the steering box over to the driver's side to get more room for headers, and put the engine on center, etc,and end up weakening the steering box. Many cars have broken the mounts and cracked cases, and IIRC, a guy went on the roof one time due to it. So before someone gets killed, they sould let them run a rack and pinion setup. More room for power, and a LOT safer. Its not just about speed sometimes. Ask charlie or bucky or anyone else if they would like to have their cars go out of control on the top end...
Saftey, then speed.

Canuck, since when is Nebraska in Canada? Mopar Action says your son is from Nebraska in their Indy shoot-out coverage.

I just don't get where that rack would be safer than box. Hell they where made for a 2500# pinto. The ends are a smaller diam. than stock and the pivot point is way shorter than the control arm point causing a way off arc compared to the control arm which gives it ungodly amount of bump steer to try and correct. I have been doing front end for along time and the only probem i have found with the box is when there was modifactions made and not braced proparly. that box is on 4500# b and c bodys, vans and trucks. Unless someone wants to pm me and educate me on why that rack is safer I am up for it. thank you,oh and everone have a great turkey day......... Jake
