I wanted to switch to 14x5.5 steel wheels on the 70 road runner with dog dish hubcaps and after having them mounted on F-70-14 they were very noisy. I lifted the front of the car and they are dragging on the disc brake calipers which were from a later year A-Body swap. Were front discs available with steel wheels or do I need to go back to the rallies or 15" rims? What are your thoughts on a wheel adapter or spacer?

Is there a chance the wheels were from a drum brake car? Centers are slightly different from disc to drum. Disc wheels will work on drum brakes...usually drum wheels will not work on later disc set-ups... twocents
You should be able to just get some 14" disc brake wheels...

Thanks. What about the road wheels? Do they have the same back as the ralleys which happen to fit fine.

if there is just "slight" interference/rubbing on the calipers, you can possibly just grind the casting a tiny bit thereby gaining all the clearance you need. you can see where everything is rubbing now, so unless it was really grinding away and the wheels were partially locked until on the road turning, it shouldn't take much to "touch up" your calipers. do you have pics of the calipers and back side of the wheels showing the interference ? as said, you could have drum wheels which have a different "drop" space in the wheel shell. there were a ton of 14" steel disc brake wheels made over the years for 73 up darts, dusters, aspens, volares, plus many variants of the B body. not sure how many are left around your area. i know around here, stock steel, dog dish compatible wheels are getting kinda scarce.

What size rotors are you running 10.75 or 11.75 ?

73 A bodies had disc brakes and 14" wheels from 73 to 76 as did the F bodies , but not with the big 11.75 rotors.

Unless you have some really old wheels they should clearthe discs , post a picture of the wheel

The rotors are the 10.7. The wheels must be 68 or 69. I put 5/16 spacers that allowed everything to clear it seems good now thanks for all your help!
