I don't have any looseness at highway speed. I know what you are talking about because I used to run bias ply drag tires on the street and they were scary at lower pressures.

Have you considered Nitto Drag Radials before? The reason I ask is they do provide a lot more traction on the street, they last longer compared to the MT's and they do awesome in the rain. I've had mine on my car for probably 8 years and have put close to 10,000 miles on them. They'll need replaced soon but I've been really happy with them. I've taken them down the track about 10 or so times. I just put around 1500 miles on them going down and back from Myrtle Beach this year. The tread depth is getting really low and they still did great in the rain on the freeway doing 70-75mph. now, I will say that you're not going to set any records at the track with them but, I think it's a great compromise.

No, drives straight as an arrow, when I ran slicks on the street I always drove with 2 hands because they found every dip in the road.

how is the sidewall on the MT S/R's, is it stiffer than BFG radial T/A's?
the tires feel pretty firm under cornering?

edit: it looks like the pics you have the S/T tires on the front..

I just looked on Jegs.com and they have a 275/60R15 and 275/50R15 listed. I run 275/40R17's on my Cobra and would assume they'd do a whole lot better in the traction department if they had some more sidewall.

I don't know what type of power you have but, both of the cars I've run them on have been 13 second 5 speed street cars. I ran the 15" version on one of my older cars and they dead hooked at the track dumping the clutch at 3k and I think I could have gone considerably higher.

I run ET street radials on my car and I really like the way they handle on the highway. I run 30 psi and drop them down to 20 on the track. I run Pro-Trac competition front tires and they are bias ply and I don't have any trouble driving on most roads.

Wow! More traction, more miles, better in the wet. Sounds like miracle tires.

And you are much braver than me. After a couple of experiences at 35MPH or so with other brands of drag radials, I wouldn't even think about driving 70MPH on wet roads with them.

Anyone else routinely drive 70MPH on wet roads with drag radials?

Parksr5,
Thanks for showing me the P275/60R15 Nitto 555R tires! I am still debating with myself over the P255 and the P275 series tires on my Challenger. If I go P275's, I would choose the Nittos. I just wish they made a P255 to make the decision easier.

Thank you!!!!

Check them out. Nitto has two or three different drag radials. the ones I run are NT555DR or something like that (I'm not looking at the part numbers right now) and then they have the NT05 or something like that. The NT555DR looks exactly like their normal 555 Summer tire but it's got a softer compound. The NT05 is more in line with the Mickey Thompson tire and I too would not want to run that thing in the rain over 35mph. The one car I have the NT555DR on right now turned into my daily driver earlier this year. I've put 3000-4000 miles on the tires this year and have had no issue whatsoever. They actually do a whole lot better in the rain than the oem BFG's that were on the car when I bought it. Again, your not going to set any records with the tire at the drag strip but, they don't hook too bad at all and are miles ahead of any normal radial that I've run.

FYI- the normal NT555 Summer tire does not do well in the snow; I tried it for 2 Ohio Winters. grin

Dave I have the 275/60/15 Nitto's on my 70 hemi cuda. They are a great driving tire but they don't hook well. At the track one day I just set still spinning the tires as if I was on ice and had to shift to 2nd just to get it to move. I know 4 speeds don't like radials but I tried them anyway. The engine is a mild 426 4 speed and at the time had 3:54 dana.

They are m/t sr's. I would say that they are as stiff as any normal radial tire that size.

I just want to tell "rapom" you have two cool cars there as I like that Buick Riviera and your Charger.

Myself I drive Hoosier 30 x 9 radial slicks on the street and have for about 5 years. Been caught in the rain twice and had no problem as I just drove slow and easy. Ron

Since Nitto does not currently manufacture the P255/60R15 tire, I emailed them and asked them if it was in their future. This is their reply:

""Thank you for the size suggestion! We are looking into releasing more sizes in the future for our street tires. However, we do not have a set time frame or set list of new sizes to come. We will take your suggestion into consideration for size expansion!""

Not a great answer, but at least they make it look like they are considering the new size. This is the email address for the tech line that I used. If anyone wants to push this or another size, please use this: nittotech@nittotire.com

I also emailed M/T to see if they would produce the P255/60R15 in a compound more street friendly (more than 4-6k miles or so) and they quit responding to my emails. So basically, eat **** Mr customer. I know that they make this size in their ST lineup, but that is their Cooper equivalent tire that is good for cruising, but not exactly a rear-traction street tire.

I just went with the ET Street S/S in 295/55-15 for Drag Week. I chose this size as no one makes a 325/50 with any sort of tread (except M&H as I later found out) They worked OK, although my 60' was a little bit off, and they like a short burnout.

In the rain I was doing 60 with no issues, and in a downpour I slowed to 45mph. Definitely better than the other drag radials I've run in that regard.

In my experience, it is beneficial to build your car around what is commonly available, rather than petition the manufacturer for what you want...

Outlawd,

I have some time to decide, but if I had the money to buy right now I would choose the Street SS (P255/60R15). But since I have some time, I just wanted to see if Nitto had any future plans to release this same size tire for us 15x7 owners.

Thanks for the tire info on your trip!

I wanted to thank everyone again for the replies.
I have read through this thread many times trying to decide on a stickier 15" rear tire and I purchased the Nitto 555R this weekend. I also bought a set of 15x8's for the P275/60/15's. I could not stuff a larger tire in there with out modifications with the Mopar Rallyes. These fit with 5/8" clearance between the tire and the wheel lip and 3/4" to the closest part of the leaf springs.

Thanks again!
