Looks like a cool old ride. Years ago, while I still lived out in the country, we got a 41 Chrysler Windser. It also ran, we drove it up and down the road infront of our house most of the summer using only the e-brake. Sold it to some guy in Burbs. It was fun, but wasn't a car I would have put much money into, went to a better home. Gene

Here are some updates on the compounding. Still needs the roof and a lot of hand work, but you can see progress. The back has areas that aren't done, and both bumper aprons aren't touched yet.
I also got the missing part in and installed.

I've got a bunch of hubcaps boxed that I haven't looked at yet. If there is a nice full set, I'll probably go with them, but need to find at least one wheel. If not, I'll go with Hollywood flippers or lancers

I gottas go wide white on the tires. Probably G78s.

the lancers would look good on there! the flippers are too boring for a chrysler!

The flippers may be simple, but if you look at the side of the car, there are a lot of chrome horizontal elements. Another horizontal rib (gotta jack it up and spin them for show) would blend in nicely. Still have to check the boxes.
The main project today is to get it back up on the trailer to take in for brakes Monday.

Thanks! It's been sitting at the shop a week so far, and no call yet. He's an old timer in a 2 man shop, so this isn't like a tire store trying to break a NASCAR record. He's the guy to go to locally, and I'm sure I would have spent a week trying to get the rear drums off myself, since I don't have the puller. So I'll wait until I hear from him. I did make room in the garage for it's return, I just hope it's enough!

Well, I got the bad news; it needs everything except drums (kinda figured). The tough part aside from the money is the decision. It will be about 150 more to go with a dual master and discs on the front. I know this is a rodders forum, but I was planning on keeping this one stock. Of course the discs are better, and a dual is a lot safer and I can keep the old parts for the next owner.

I was pretty much expecting to hear this, sorry. At least most the stuff would still be available, but it sounds like a good excuse to go with the discs to me. Money for money, the single res/drum just doesn't make good sence to me, esspecially with such a heavy car. Add in the fact that the late 40s brake adjustments are hard to get right. Updating the rear end as well? Nothing wrong with "modern" brakes. Gene

I've made the call, I just can't see putting that much money into funky old stuff when I can have better, safer, easier to maintain stuff underneath for not much more. The kingpins were shot too, so that bumped up the total. When I drove it, there was a clunk underneath when steering, so I figured something was needed.
The rear will remain stock, but I did ask him to install studs too. Again, if I'm going that direction, no point in having studs on the front and left side lug bolts/right side right lug bolts. I was really planning on staying stock, but I'll just keep the hubcaps on.... SHHH!
It also tore a big chunk out of the tire money. Heck, it took it all! Wide whites will have to wait for a van sale or something.
I'll get an ETA on this phase tomorrow. I'm just bummed that I can't see it or rub it out some more. I've still got 3/4 of the roof and a lot of hand work to do. It's been too cold anyway, at least that's what I'm telling myself.

That's kind of a bummer...but look at it this way- It's kinda like a protection on your investment. Dad's the type he wants them to look fairly stock, but be as modern as possible when it comes to things like braking. I can't say I blame him. I don't like the idea of some Chip in a Honda planting the brakes and being able to stop from 60 in ½ the distance I can...well, at least until the weight of my car is pushing his too!
