BIG time. I went from a 2.76 to a 2.94 in a 318 Volare and it made a noticable difference. Your making a .5 jump, very noticeable.

Go to 3.55 instead of 3.23. Penalty on the highway is only a hundred or two rpm but it'll make your step much more worthwhile IMO.

Now that is cool! What do you think the normal torque convertor efficiency is?

When I put 90%, RPMs only went up 500rpm at 65mph, when going from 3.55 to 4.10.

I HATED 3.55's in my car...was too buzzy, I like to keep up with traffic on the freeway, and I didn't enjoy 3K RPM at 70 MPH...I actually kept the 3.55's, just added a .69 OD

I know that years ago when I ran a SB Mustang with 2.79's it was OK. Being a college kid I tried to save money by running them until I came across a set of 3.55's. After that, the 2.79's stayed on the shelf.

Gears made a lot of difference....

It was a bit buzzier for sure, but in my case it was worth it.

I had 3.23s on my old valiant and hated them, tires were 225-75-14s so not too big but it was miserable. 2.94s are the lowest I would want on my street car, I would rather build the engine for more tq than gear it down for tq. Mabey if you had a pretty tall tire then 3.23s would be bearable.

I guess it all comes down to what you like. When I went from 2.94 to 3.23 in my Barracuda, it made a world of difference performance-wise. I'm running 205/75 14 and it's 3200rpm at around 70 mph (speedo needle jumps a lot). I dig it. My dad hates it.
