Is the rear license plate holder on a 1968 Plymouth GTX painted black or is it unpainted?
Thanks

I have a latter 68 built Road Runner (Lynch Road, early May) When I got the car 25 years ago it had a black painted holder. During my restoration it looked to me to be factory crappy paint rather than rattle can artwork. Even though the car had custom paint when it was raced I doubt the guy would have spent the time to paint the plate holder... but you never know...
Do we know if the 69 RR/GTX/Satellites have black or galvanized? The picture is from the mid 80s

My 68 and 69 Road Runners are galvanized. I am not sure if the one on the 69 is original. It was in a pile of parts I got with the car. The one on the 68 is original.

Thanks for the responses. The 68 GTX is original except for a terrible repaint in the early 70s. The black paint on the license plate also looked like it was original which is why I asked the question. I have a 69 RR survivor and the plate is galvanized.

I never they came both ways and now we know. I've had my '68 since it was 5 years old and worked on other '68s which were painted also. I bought a (black)spare last year and found (black)another at Columbus swap meet in January.

Both could be considered correct, though I have seen many more black than galvanized in 68.
I don't know that I have seen any black in 69, at least on true original cars.
