OK - I know, it's a ford 9", but it's what all of our crew uses, so I went with a 9" so we can all share gears, etc.
I have a VERY VERY long driveshaft, so I went with a 4" chrome moly driveshaft and 1350 u-joints, and I am at the bench trying to install a STRANGE U1603 yoke, I have the spacer kit STR-N-1918 - it has two spacers in it.
I was assuming the spacers would take the place of the crush sleeve, but even with both spacers in, the pinion splines still protrude up past the nut face...
Do I still need the crush sleeve, then use the spacers to eliminate the protruding splines ?? If so, do the spacers go under the yoke at the spline or do they go in with the crush sleeve ??

Seems like there should be some instructions someplace... Also a note - been a while since I bought a yoke - I forgot they don't come with straps... argh !!!
Thanks in advance !!

The spacers in the N1918 kit are used on stock or Daytona pinion supports to correct the issue you have. The correct spacer goes between the front bearing and the yoke. Use as much shim as is needed to insure that the yoke tightens against the spacer/bearings and not have the nut bottom on the splines.

A crush sleeve can be used between the bearings, but in any performance application, a solid spacer is preferred. A one piece can be used, but will usually need to have the thickness tuned to get the desired preload. A two piece with shims can be adjusted as needed. Some people will use the two piece to determine the thickness needed and then machine the one piece to that dimension, rather than using the trial and error method. Different strokes for different folks.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Got it, thanks. I think I'm going to use a crush sleeve at this point (as I have several on hand) and do the solid shim thing later. Really caught me off guard, after my panic session, it looks pretty straightforward. !
