How can you have a 59* block and a 48* tunnel..
its one or the other... its the angle of the lifter

I would press in sleeves into the cam tunnel so
you can use a 59* cam... yeah its a fair amount
of work but if the block is cheap enough it would
be well worth the work... I would assume that $800
block is the same way based on the price... or talk
to the cam grinders and see if they can cut a 48*
cam to 59* specs and then use the needle bearings
EDIT
Or check on getting a few cams made for this type
of block... there are a few out there

That block will probably be FUBAR too as it is 1 serial # before this block I was asking about.

My R3 is #003. The only issues were the main bulkheads weren't trimmed enough to clear stock counter weights, 30 minutes with the carbide. And the upper 2 timing cover bolt holes were drilled in the low deck location, drilled and tapped 2 holes.

I just bought the block that was on Craigslist. He said he didn't know if it was a 48 or 59 degree cam tunnel. I told him it should be easy to tell if the #5 cam bearing bore and the #1 are the same its a 48. I've been on the phone with Comp and LSM to see if they have cams available but I've been stuck on hold. I guess it will be a surprise to see what I get when it shows up lol. Does anyone have anymore info on these blocks? For the money hopefully I can make something work.

I called Bullet they said they have never heard of this before but could grind a cam for $750. Not bad considering.

I dont know if Bullet buys their blanks or if they
make them.. but if they get rough cores they can
grind anything with them... a 48* cam ground on 59*
with roller bearings would be great... or even better
would be a 48* block... mine was a dry sump block with
a solid valley area and no filter set up

What are the bearing bores? No such thing as 48 or 59 bearing size. I have had several different bearing arrangements with 48 degree. There have been a few for 59.

What is the lifter bore spacing? 1.625 is common for 48. And 1.875 is stock 59.

The hurdle in making a camshaft with oil pump gear. Loose the gear and go external oil pump and front distributor solves problem. Order a spool and get your cam ground.

Leon,

I'll measure the block when it arrives. He didn't know. What does a guy have to do about a intake? I have w5's and a Indy intake. Can a guy mill enough off a standard deck Intake to make it work or what should a guy do?

Thanks

Well we figured it out thanks to all of your input here. #1 and #5 cam bores are the same size. The lifter bores are 59* as checked with a pair of 59* roller lifters. Thanks for everyone's help and input. Jim

So you need a 2 in Babbitt bearing cam for that block. Or is it set up for a 50mm roller?

Well I don't know we only checked the #1 & #5 CB bores. Will they all be the same if it's the 50MM roller? Jim
