I bought the outside hood release from lmctruck.com for my 84 d150 which I'm using a 89 grille but there hood release won't work at all with the 89 grill does anyone have a pic of there factor outside hood release on you 86-90 truck I will have to modify this one I got but just curious of what the actual one looks like

I don't believe there ever was one.... I could be wrong but all the 81-93 trucks we have had were inside.

Yes I had a 81 stepside with the outside hood release what I'm thinking is that 86-up didn't have it so I'm just gonna have to modify this one I got because I hate the cable have had nothing but bad luck with hood release cables.

IIRC from my mud truck you have to modify the core support.

Back when I had my '76, the cable broke on the hood release. Rather than replace it, I removed the metal cover on the latch itself, and was able to stick my fingers thru the grill and trip the lever where the cable was attached.

Could this be done on the later ones too?

It was a little stealthy because unless someone saw me do it, there was no obvious hood release.
