I am at the deciding on color phase for painting my t/a hood. I want to go as original as possible, but I am concerned that organosol black is going to start to wear prematurely, be hard to keep looking clean and start to look bad (shiny spots, lint caught in it from towels, ect....from washing). Is this a real problem or am I overthinking?

The place painting my hood and spoiler is recommending more of a satin black (less to no texture) that will wear better and be easier to maintain long term, I haven't gone to look at their other suggestions yet.

I drive my challenger anywhere from a few hundred to 2-3 thousand miles a summer and wash it a few times a year. So, it's not a trailer queen, but far from a daily driver, I would like it to look nice for the foreseeable future.

What say ye from experience?

There's probably better products out there today from a longevity standpoint...

I got friend's with Organosehair cars...

It's a little bit of a PITA...

Planet Color has a textured black paint that looks good - click on the pic a couple up from the bottom of page 18.

https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/247661/18.html

Here is a 70 dart with original black organisol paint on the hood as a comparison.

http://www.showyourauto.com/view_photo.p...DartSwingerWM10

From what I can gather the paint is supposed to have a more of a pebble grain/condensed orange peel finish to it rather than rough like sandpaper. The hood on that dart looks to have small bits of silver flakes in it so that may be something you'll need to add depending on what you end up with.

I bought a quart of ppg DCC9355 black, a bottle of DX1999 texture additive, and some silver ultra microflake for my hood, but it hasn't been sprayed yet.

If it is catches lint from a towel, it was not sprayed right.

Texture yes, but very, very light with no pointy bits.

Thanks for the feedback guys, my car is a a high end shop but they do not specialize in Mopars, I will see what they have to show me as far as samples but it sounds like organosol is livible long term in a light to medium use situation...

Almost forgot is it waxable? How do you properly maintain it if not?

Buy the T/A hood paint from Frank Baldeson. Seen cars with and without it. And people wishing they bought the Baldeson's stuff.

Wing paint is different than T/A hood paint.

Good to know, my plan is chin spoilers (no paint from what I understand), T/A hood and I have an original go-wing which I am putting on the back, I assumed the wing and the hood where the same color.... this is getting complicated, lol.

My hope is/was to have a combination that "could" have come from the factory, but it sounds like the whole t/a hood replacing shakers when they ran out really isn't a true story.

I thought Go ('70) and Gull (71') wings were molded in black with no paint.

The shaker replacement wives tale is BS.

You could just have ordered N94 as late year option. Barry's http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/1970DodgeWhatsNew-01.shtml site has the announcement literature.

Sweet so in theory a '70 Challenger could have come with a t/a hood, go-wing and chin spoilers?

Honestly I have no idea if the go-wings were painted or not, mine needs restored, is there a way to do that without painting?

My chin spoilers are the "official" reproductions, so I assume they are good to go without painting?

Yes you could get A45 front and rear spoilers with N94. Right out of the ordering pamphlet shown.

Like RS23U1G said the spoilers were molded in ABS and came not painted. But also like he said, SEM trim paint is great at refreshing an old faded or repaired wing or chin spoiler.

6bblgt has a 70 Challenger 383 R/T? A/C with N94 hood.

(And some chin re-pops are fiberglass...

Don't know how they hold up...

Or, how difficult they are to maintain...)

It's not a problem if you keep wax off of it.

Thanks again everyone, I appreciate all the help, a true fountain of knowledge on here up

I will hopefully check my car out soon and look at some samples, sounds like I may need to order the paint from Frank B. as mentioned above. Looks like it is sold through http://www.rogergibsonautorestoration.com/ does that seem right?
