What have you folks used to clean "dirty" sending units????

I've taken the tank in to get cleaned and the sending unit is is pretty dirty.

Can I soak it in carb cleaner?

Sorry, I didn't know it was for a 57 Plymouth. I really don't know where to get one but this will get you back to the top. Good luck!!!
