thought I would share my results. I have a 07 3500 CC long box with a 5.9 these motors are junk and don't really have the longevity of the 1st and second gens. mine broke a ring in #1 cyl (190,000 miles.) so we pulled it for a rebuild including the head. stock other than a colt cam. (actually its my local cam guy borrowing their profile) centerline goes from 99 to 103*
got it all done last week and have just broke it. I am impressed with the power, colt says 2mpg and 4 psi more boost with the cam swap. engine sounds totally different, much less effort at cruising speed. more passing power. taking it in next week for a efi live tune and that's all I am going to do for now. in the spring I will do a Cold air and muffler change.
I was getting 19L/100km (12/US/mpg) after the rebuild, 11L/100k (22US/mpg) I figure ill be getting 24-6 US/mpg with the tune from the results I have seen with others.
so when (not if) your third gen melts #1 or #5-6 pistons or breaks rings look into a cam swap while your rebuilding, well worth the money.
