Hi guys,
I am looking at picking up a nice dart with a 413 in it, the engine but it has an external balancer on it? Did 413's come like this? I thought they were internally balanced? Got any info?
Thanks

Someone did that, none of the 413 motors, cars, boats, industrail, motorhomes or trucks I've ever heard of or seen came externally balance from Mopar that way. The 1971 360 motors where the first external balanced motors from Mopar and then the 1972 340 and 400 and the next year when they went to cast cranks in the 440 motors they went to external balanced. IHTHs Does the motor shake slightly or severally when revved up in nuetral? If not, it may have a cast crank in it with that balancer and converter or flywheel

Mike If it shakes that may be why it is available at a good price. Wrong combination of parts. I have had a supposedly rebuilt 413 HP motor in my shop for 18 months on an engine stand and I will go look at the balancer and report back. I finally got out to my shop this morning and checked the 413...it has an internal balance dampener on it. The valve covers are loose, the heads are 516s and clean inside. It also has an Edelbrock TM7 on it. It was left here by the previous owner of the property. It belonged to his son and was rebuilt (?) by a neighbor. I guess it is mine now as I have told the PO family members to come & get it. I am also storing a '67 Fury with a tired 383 that could use this motor with a street manifold and carb. Suggestions?

I thought Mopar made 413's for industrial use well into the 70's. I have always assumed those motors were cast crank / external balance deals just like the similar year 440's. (???)

Mopar made the industrial 413 until 1973, all of them where H.D. motors with really good forged steel cranks, rods, H.D cylinder heads and so on internally balanced. The first batch of 440-3 motor home motors had forged steel cranks shafts with the 6 pak rods, I think they where the first year of the exteranally balanced 440 H.D. motors, maybe not
