When replacing points, usually they come with a little capsule of grease - where do I put this and what kind of grease is it? I have a new set of points for my '66 383 but no grease capsule

I don't know what type it is. my guess is some non-conductive type.
it goes on the arm where it rides on the distributor shaft.
basically so the little arm nub doesn't wear away from being dragged on the shaft.
at least that is what I remember. it has been a very long time since I changed a set of points.

It goes on the part of dist that has the flata that opens the points.The hex.Clean the old grease off first then a light coat.Its hi temp grease and not much is needed.Helps keeps the points block from wearing.Rocky

get a dab of grease out of your grease gun & go around the point cam to leave a THIN coat on the OD which is what contacts the fiber piece halfway along the length of the metal point lever. Also a touch of grease on the part of that fiber piece that contacts the cam. EDIT in additon to the edge of the fiber piece put a THIN coat on the leading edge (side) of the fiber piece so as it wears there will still be lube available. For performance you can go with a minimal gap which gives the longest dwell (degrees the points are closed) which gives the most coil saturation time which also makes the points last less cuz of the longer contact time with current passing thru them they burn easier (& we're talking over time). Start with .010" for max performance. for grandmas' DD for the longest life go with the widest gap (.017-.020). gap (dwell) is inversely proportional to performance/long point life and you can go up or down with ballast ohms also (same deal there too)
