I'm putting together a 70 Challenger SE (orig 318) and it has a 22" core support in it. I'm putting in a 440/727 combo, and what to know what I should use for a radiator. I'm just going to sell it and try and make a few bucks, so I'm looking for an economical route- but want it to cool well too. I'm thinking either adding a core to a stock rad- if I can find one- or putting in a aluminum one- which brings up a shroud question too- What are your thoughts/experiences?

when i bought my 70 bee clone it had a stock 26" rad installed on a unmolested small rad core support. most of the core sees air and it works fine for me. just drill a few holes to mount it. and the factory clutch fan and shroud help ALOT.

This is my 440 Challenger with a griffin..I have yet see it get much over the 200 degree mark, but i think it would like a shroud..

keep your 22in and have it re-cored to a more modern high efficent core from Glen Ray. Even 440 sixpack engins had a 22in standard with auto and 323 rear. This will keep your car more orig looking and you can use a factory fan shroud. I paid Glen Ray $500 to have mine completly re-built better than new. A 22in with a good core with a good water pump (edelbrock or 440source) will cool a 440 just fine.

Here is a cheap stock appearing 26 inch rad in a 22 inch opening and a stock 6 pack shroud painted silver. Motor is a 440 stroked and bored to 498 cubes.
