Anybody know where I could a few??? This 51 has them on the rear but nuts up front. Also would there be a reason the fron wheels are a different bolt pattern than the rear? (5x5 vs 5x4.5) Rear end seems to be a 8.75, a little different than the late 60's model. oh and it was nice to see somebody at some point put left hand lugs on the Pass front and Drivers side rear....

It isn't stock to have two different patterns. And whatever is on one axle should be on the other, either lug bolts or studs.

The axle previous to the 8 3/4 looked a lot like it. I don't think any 8 3/4 came with lug bolts so I'm guessing the rear axle is stock.

The front 5 on 5 pattern was standard on many full size GM cars through at least the '70s. Our '52 Buick had 5 on 5, and the 1975 Electra was 5 on 5. I am thinking Olds and Pontiacs were, too. Chevy was 5 on 4 3/4. I think someone put bigger brakes on the front of your truck.

In the '40s I am sure that 3/4 ton Dodge pickups were 5 on 4 1/2, as were 1/2 tons. I'm sure that carried over into the '50s at least for a few years.

Left handed lug bolts would probably come from a Mopar-only place, like Robert's Motorparts.

fronts could be 5x4.75" I'll re measure. I'm guessing the same, fronts were changed at some point...

you never know the trouble you seen when working with an old car---when you dont know the full history---that rear may not be an 8.75---unless a newer than 57 rear end was tossed in---mopar had a similar rear end used from about 1931 to 1956----looks like a 8.75 but is just a little smaller---dont know what it was called---probably a cuss word--or a spicer....

Yes that is the rear, it's almost an 8.75 and I cannot for the life of me get the pass side brake drum off! runaway

You can swap the front drums left/right to get the 'correct' threaded nuts on the proper side again.

You need a grown-up drum puller for those rear drums. Harr-harr...

I usually fix the rear brake drum issue, the upcoming brake lining, return spring, and wheel cylinder brake issues, the lug bolt issue, and the one of 2 rear gear options with a modern rear axle.

Of course, feel free to consume your time, effort, blood donation, frustration level and overall patience with trying to "just check it out and fix the minor things with the original axle." You won't be the first, many of us have been standing where you are. Some of us have even succeeded in getting the original stuff working, and most will tell you the same thing I am. Change the rear end, update the front with disc brakes, unless of course, you are restoring the truck to 100% original. Even then, if you intend on actually driving the thing.....Gene

iagree

The flathead six was lucky to make 100hp and maybe 240 lb-ft of torque. Any modern engine will increase that by at least 50%. You'll be swapping axles eventually anyway, do it first and forget about two-piece axles and unobtainable brake parts.

oh trust me, this driveline isn't going to be here long, neither is the rear. I just want to get it mobile and possibly able to drive up to the store and back until I get all my junk together for the swap.

I don't know if you;re still looking for lug bolts, but if you are try checking trailer supply places, a lot of the older trailers used them.

www.robertsmotorparts.com has left hand lug bolts in their "brake" section under truck parts, about item #12. Gene
