I am in middle of rebuilding my Challengers A/C heater box. Any tips on cleaning/lubing/checking the vaccume pods out before reinstalation? Do they get any kind of lube?

pump them up with a mityvac or hook them to the carb choke pulloff nipple & see if they hold vacuum. No lube.

I tried just sucking on them (keep it clean!)with a piece of vaccume tube and they moved a little and I heard no leaks is that good enough? I will have to try the vaccume port next time I start the cars up, thanks for the tip.

They could have a slight pinhole leak the same as the choke pulloff diaphram could & with the constant vacuum from the eng you'd not catch it so a Mityvac would be much better as you could pump it up till the travel is maxed out then see if it holds that vacuum for several minutes. They are usually pretty reliable but I dont like the idea of a possible constant vac leak messing up my air/fuel ratio in the eng & also I want to KNOW that everything is right. I do not assume anything.

True, Probably would come in handy for all types of things I would assume, especially with the vaccume operated nightmare on the Charger.

would this be a good "starter kit"? http://www.tooltopia.com/index.asp?PageA...;utm_medium=PPC

I dont know as when I said Mityvac I was using that as a generic term. The one in my pic I got at sears & though I am no longer a fan of sears declining quality I have had this one for quite awhile(& it is sturdy) & dont remember what I paid for it & actually haven't used it much but when I have had a need for it it has come in real handy. I'm thinking that in a prior thread on brake bleeding that people who had Mityvacs were happy with them.

I was just thinking that you could hook each one of those vac pods to a manifold vacuum nipple on the carb & then clamp the hose hard with a pair of pliers with a wide smooth surface & hold it for several minute. This would be the same effect as a vacuum pump & it'd be free & I'm thinking that those A/C pods get full eng vacuum. No need to buy a Mityvac if you didn't have to.

Gotha, it's not too much of an outlay, and it looks like it would come in handy for brake bleeding and other stuff, I will do a little more research and maybe pick up a mityvac. Thanks for the help.
