I've had my carb on for about 6 years now. Driving every couple of weekends on average. Pump gas.

How often should the carb be taken off, opened up and cleaned?

There is no time line, it all boils down to amount of use, type and conditions of storage, and fuel used. Basically? If it works leave it alone.

I think you are fine tho ethanol does raise hell. A plan I always wanted to try was that Gumout? commercial decades ago which said "soup up your eng, here is the soup" & they plumbed a can of it to the carb inlet & ran it on that. I think a high grade solvent like that would thoroughly clean gasoline deposits in every nook and cranny (& no need to take carb apart) unless it ended up messing with the AP plunger or needle neoprene on down the line.

I have had to remove the carb twice for cleaning in the 5600 miles my car has been on the road since resto finish (98)... NEW tank, lines, two fuel filters at first.. Original Carter that came on the car...

Not sure how to describe it but the float areas had oily blobs in them.. Car was not idling at stops or running smoothly..

Ran great after cleaning...
