Have what is believed to be a 426 max wedge block, but not really sure. The casting numbers on the passenger side are 1316. On the driver side there are no numbers except for a single 6 near the rear of the block. The stamp pad has the numbers A426 and under those is a 6 10. Also on the back of the block was an R. There were no number stamped in the pan rail. Any help decoding this would be great.

A426 on the pad is a 1965 426 street wedge block.

You say street wedge. Is this different than a max wedge? If so what's different?

It was just an average big block. Regular passenger style non-maxwedge heads, single 4bbl.

Just like a run of the mill 440 but with a smaller bore.

very correct! but it has some value to a guy restoring a 65 belvedere or coronet original 426 street wedge car, also used in furys and other c-bodys, I've seen them is trucks also. The last year of the max wedge was 64.

The 1963 and 1964 Max Wedge blocks had a different casting number than the 1964 and 1965 street wedge blocks did the M.W. blocks had 1/2 inch swinging oil pickups also and the street wedges had 3/8 staionary pickup just like all of the other non M.W. B&RB blocks did back then. I did find one 426 M.W. block casting # with a 3/8 oil pickup in a late 1964 Plymouth Sport Fury or a regular Fury, I never got to see the car, just the block along with the heads, intake and other parts I bought at a garage sale I was a little upset when I got the parts home and dsicovered the oil pick up was a 3/8 instead of a 1/2 I was still real glad to get standard bore block that would take a power hone job with a torque plate and still be only .002 over stock

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

max wedge blocks had TMP stamped with a large font on deck pad on a 62 dated block.
then there was a VMP stamped on a 63 and 64 cast block. also had a 426MP stamped on pad as well.
also you;ll see a AAQA on front of the block.street wedges also had AAQA.
also theres a notch for valve relief at top of cylinder to accept larger Max Wedge exhaust valve.

Don't want to steal the thread but I will be going to look at what is supposed to be a 66 Hemi later this week. I have no clue what to look for so any info would really be appreciated. My plan is to start collecting real Hemi parts and in about 4 or 5 years buy a clean 09 V-6 Challenger and start another project.
