Next weekend I will be helping my brother install the engine and trans in his 71 Demon 340. I've done this install a number of times and have always put the front of the car on jackstands to give enough ground clearance to slide the trans in. This requires you to lift the engine and trans quite high to get over the radiator support.
I was thinking this time I would try putting the rear of the car on jackstands. This would actually make the front of the car lower and hopefully give enough clearance to swing the trans under the firewall. Has anyone done it this way? Is there enough clearance to get the trans under the car? TIA
Arno

That actually works pretty good. We did the challenger that way. Jack up the rear real high on stands and just be sure that you can get the crane under the K-frame/lower control arms. Use the floor jack under the tailshaft after you get the motor/trans in and jack it up so you can swing the trans mount in place a slide a couple of bolts through. Jacking up the rear gives you enough room to do this. Once everything is in place, jack up the front and complete installation.

Thanks for the response! That is the way I will attack it this time.
