Where do you guys buy your helmets? There's a bunch of places online, but you would have to know what size to buy. Do you have local speed shops that sell them?

I like to try them on before I buy, unfortunately not many places carry auto helmets. This bit me recently as I needed a helmet quickly, and just ordered one from Summit that should have been my size, the fit was quite bad for my head "shape"

A lot of guys buy the wrong size... most of the time its too loose for their head... but it feels better... they should be snug.. when I bought my last full face helmet I thought it was too tight... after a few times of wearing it it did loosen up a little.... but damn that helmet was hot... same one I still have..... speaking of helmets... whats the code/date thats still good to run... I need to check the date on mine for DW

I'd like to try some on. Maybe to at least get an idea of size and then buy one online. We have a Harley Davidson dealer close by. Maybe I'll try them. Can you use a motorcycle helmet for auto racing? Or are they two separate things?

If your asking due to needing a helmet to be legal for drag racing we need to know how fast the car is now an if your planning on going faster sooner than later NHRA and SFI specs. are different requirements based on E.T. and MPH As far as head size and helmet sizes it depends on the helmet maker There far better, safer for the wearer, when there snug fitting versus looser as already pointed out As one post on here in the past siad about helmets, do you have a cheap brain? If so buy a cheap helmet If not, don't

IIRC, motorcycle helmet is only good to 10:00.
There are 2 different styles, round and oval, depends on head shape. And yes, different manufacturers can have different measurements.

My M2005 is a beat up piece of junk, dearly in need of being replaced, but I'm going to hold out until the SA2015's are readily available.

Thanks for all the info. I've been doing some research on the tracks near me and their helmet requirements. It looks like one track requires a helmet for ALL classes, where the other just requires it for 13.99 and faster. If your asking due to needing a helmet to be legal for drag racing we need to know how fast the car is now an if your planning on going faster sooner than later My car hasn't been down the track in years, so I'm going to guess it somewhere in the 14's. There has been some tweaking done to it since then, so I'm not sure if it would fall below 13.99. Probably not. And I probably won't go any faster anytime soon .. no $$ at the moment for mods.

If so buy a cheap helmet If not, don't 40 years ago this November I had a motorcycle/car accident. I was on the motorcycle and it was the typical accident (left turn by car into bike, did not see me) I flew over the car, broke his windshield with my left elbow, shattered my left leg above the knee, broke my right leg below the knee and split my recent Bell 500 helmet in half on the asphalt. I would have been dead in the street were it not for the helmet or at best a vegetable for the rest of my life. I want the best helmet I can afford if I am going to race. Period.
