My trans builder always tell me the same thing, if a band needs adjusting, it needs replaced with a new one.

A clutch or a brake shoe lining has a whole lot more material on it than a transmission band does. 2 totally different comparisons.

Ok.... does he do the same thing when he has to pay for it? I've had 47/48RE tranny's come in so far out of adjustment that the strut band has fallen out. Drop the valve body, if the band isn't black/burnt (often not) put it back together, adjust it up, and let her eat!
