Hey Guys the wife's van is having a/c issues. When the A/C is run or even just the fan motor turned on, the van overheats. It also blows hot, not cold. While at the Nats she took it by a tire repair place and they said it had a relay with power running to it, but not from it. They told her it was either the Radiator Cooling Fan Motor relay or the A/C Condenser Fan Motor relay. They were not authorized to make repairs to that, so it didn't get fixed.

My wife said prior to the A/C going bad, it made a chirping sound like a bird when the A/C was turned on. Any ideas what could be wrong here? She is doubtful the relay has anything to do with the failure since it was making a chirping sound and feels it is a pulley or belt or something else. With 174K on it, my opinion is it probably has multiple issues. Thoughts on what it is or how to diagnose further?

Thanks!
Randy

Check and see if the fans come when you turn the ac on without the engine running. They should. Also check the ac compressor to see if it is locked up. Replace one of the relays at a time and see if that does anything. They should be the same type relay. Just because it chirped doesn't mean the problem is the belt but it could be.

Checked the fans, they didn't come on. Is that an indication one of the relay's in bad?

Either the relay or the fan. Replace the relays they are to cheap not to. If you don't know which ones they are then do a "how to replace fan relays" on your year and model van online. You should find a video showing you how and where. Those how to videos are great. up
