how do you remove the wire clip on the shaft to remove the tee bar?

I assume you spred it open??

I think I am going to try to install the mech advance limiter plate from FBO?

I picked up a new re-man points dist for 30$ to ge the truck running.

I have the Mr. Gasket advance cure spring set and it looks like you "JUST" drop the plate on the right holes.

looks simple enough I can do it.

I use two small screw drivers against each other to spread the clip open, I usually don't have to fiddle with it too long.
I like to make sure everything is nice and free, a lot of the time I file the plate so it doesn't stick anywhere. It will be obvious when you get it apart. If the stock distributor has a light and a heavy spring, quite often the factory light one with one Mr Gasket really light one works well depending out the rest of the combo.

yippy!!.. took a while but I got the clip off with out a hammer.

cleaned/oiled/spring swap/back together and pooched the plastic collar.

does the top piece need to be phased to the lower shaft?

I did not pay attention to it when I removed it. after a long while trying to remove the wire clip I was all giddy for a moment.

with the tip from Sheldon, I did some grinding on the lower plate where the arm from vac pod was rubbing.

I never knew how gummed up a dist gets down inside. this is a stock 1966-273 points dist that looks to never have been apart.
