I would like to fix some visible [and the not visible] rust that is on my passenger side door. I am considering reskinning the door but have limited body work experience, at least at this level.

I am looking for some input on the level to which I could potentially screw up installing a new skin. Removing the old seems straight-forward, installing the new seems a bit intimidating.

Any input you could provide to help sway me one way or the other? Looking from the inside and what is visible on the outside, attempting to repair the door would likely just lead to more frustration than it's worth.

Thank you!

Installing a door skin is fairly easy, use a hammer and a dolly to bend around the new skin edge. To remove the old skin just grind thru the edge and carefully separate.

Take care,

I'd say the second one you do will be relatively easy. I'd pay someone to do it, E-bodies aren't growing on trees anymore.

Why pay for someone to ruin your car, when you can ruin it yourself for FREE?!

After getting ripped off by a body shop, I decided to do things on my own from now on. If you have the necessary tools and equipment, just go to "Youtube" for video lessons on just about anything. You can even fix your ailing golf swing if that's your thing!

Nobody cares more about than your car than you. You can take your sweet 'ole time... where as a body shop has to work quickly to make a profit.

When I wondered about replacing my own quarter panels, a friend of mine said to me... "Any mistake that you make can be fixed." It gave me the confidence to try. Well, it took me 30 days to complete the work, and they turned out so good that I was offered a job! However, I knew he wouldn't let me take that much time to replace body panels!

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!

I put an nos skin on my Cuda door. Take your time to fit it right. I mounted the inner part back on the car with skin tacked in a few places to make sure it's square to car(quarter and fender). I used a large flat chunk of aluminum on the face side while bending the lip over, bend over gradually along the length making about four or more passes. Think like you're bending all at once. You don't want to stretch the metal lip. Continuely checking fitment to car. Do not hammer on face side. Mine came out perfect with No skim coat needed( I hate skim coats).
