Need help folks. Car is a 66 Chrysler Town and Country wagon. Just brought out of storage. Long story short, did all prep to fire it up and it started as a matter of fact shut it down and started it twice..............no luck third time.

Friend talked me through getting it going by running a pig tail or alligator clip from positive on battery to positive on coil and it fired up, got it home and shut it down and it started. Went to fire after work today, nothing.

Any suggestions.........ballast resistor changed or other?

Thanks,

pull the yellow wire off of the starter relay to disable the starter (you know it cranks & no need to run the batt down). have a helper hold the key to start & you under the hood & see if you get near batt voltage to the coil positive primary terminal (have him try the key several times) & get the points on the cam base & open/close them & see if that makes the coil secondary wire (dist end) held 1/4" from ground produce sparks. seperate the bulkhead halves & clean the terminals. I hear Deoxit (spray I believe) is good then Koppercoat then dielectric grease on the outside would be the very best. that'll get you started

Thanks RR.............There is no spark and voltage to the ballast resistor is low. And as I said it starts when I run a pig tail from the battery to the positive side of the coil...

Oxidation in a connector. Probably a bulkhead connector if all the stories over the years are true.

Heck, the car is 50 years old!

clean every terminal/connection from the batt positive post to the bulkhead and the same from the bulkhead to the coil. if that dont do it you might go under the dash & clean every terminal/connection in that path. before going under the dash I would clean the batt neg post/clamp & the other end of that cable to block & braided cable from block to firewall (the ground path) as it (neg return side) might be contributing some to the total problem & pushing the (positive side) voltage drop over the edge tow here it wont fire (& working under the dash is a pain)
