Nope not me. I ran an 8.75 in my old car. Lived a couple years at 11.70's, couple more years running 10.70's, and then when I stepped it up it grenaded and went straight to a Dana and never looked back.
Gonna put it back together and hope this little 318 doesn't bust it again.... Lol
I will feel like an idiot running a Dana with a 318, hope it doesn't come to that.... It's only 475 horse once I get it dialed in..... And I think I have, just need to not break anything now to find out.

Dang sounds like my last trip to the track. My car did make one poor pass before my spinning and then hook pass. I thought it was good until I went to launch the car and it went into what felt like a neutral . I found it still pulled a little so I tried to shift to second and it locked up completely. Found the sprag came apart and lock the rear drum. When the rear band applied it locked up. Now waiting on my new super sprag for my 727. Oh by the way mine is a 318 422 cube engine too

Not so fast there Mr. doom and Gloom ... for some odd reason the 904 is not as acceptable to the sprag woes of the 727 , but he needs to look at it anyway ...

Buddy of mine looking at it just sent me a picture. The axles are stripped.
Looks like only about 1/2 to 3/4 inch of the splines were engaged .
So measuring the rare ds looks like mine is 54 and an A body is 52
Sooo..... I didn't know the rear that was in the car when I bought it was out of a B body
Need to order some B body axles....... I am guessing correct axle spine engagement should be roughly 1.5 inches into the spool on both sides?????????

Common problem. The issue is the split gear setup on MOST 8.75s.

Each axle engages a side gear AND a side 'plate' that is part of the clutch assembly of the sure grip. That means of the engagement of the axle-to-side-gear strips out you go nowhere.

Not only are the axle splines trashed, but so are the side gears (at least one) in the diff unit.

A much better design was the one piece where by the side gear and plate are one unit, but they are rare. The side gear and plate are locked together when an axle is installed so they FUNCTION as a single piece, unless, as in your case the small amount of axle spline to side gear engagement strips out.

From his comments this is not the issue, he has a spool.

Axles too short are the root issue. Sorry to read about this Don. Hope the spool isn't hurt.

Pull it all down, flush out the garbage, measure and start over. Hopefully most all the junk is in the bottom section of your housing. Might be a good time to install a drain plug in the bottom of your housing.

Bought CORRECT length 35 spine axles and new 35 spline spool to replace the 30 spline stuff I had
Dr Diff is as always a great guy to deal with
Hope to get out soon and give it another try.
Cass said it probably wouldn't have stripped if I had 35 spline to begin with, even with the shallow engagement.
Should have listened to him the first time hammer

Trying to figure why the Trans needs to come out when the drive shaft never went faster then the rear end it strip a axel not the ring gear when the car stopped so did the driveshaft so why does the Trans need to be checked what am I missing I understand if it dropped the driveshaft or broke ring gear and the driveshaft kept spinning but it did not like I said when the car stopped so did the driveshaft
