joes68340s mopar Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 463 Rescue CA.	My previous car 71 Duster 340 race car I went from open exhaust 11 inch extentions to 3 inch tti x pipe 3 inch dynamax bullets and went faster. It was loud but not as bad as open then went to 3 inch ultraflow ran the same but was so quiet at idle I couldn't here it at the start line. Went back to the bullets. I ran 11.30s stock stroke 340. Fun car to drive its been gone 3 weeks and I miss it. My neighbors are happy though its amazing how well you can run with a full exhaust.

Sunroofcuda master Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 8,393 Highland, MI.	They will be very loud - trust me. Any 3" straight-through muffler will be a lot louder than a 2.5" muffler. The flow specs listed look like they came right from Dynomax - or they were tested the same way using 20.3" H2O as the gauge. To the OP, if you have 550 HP & were running dual 2.5" Super Turbos, they will provide approx. 380 loss-free horsepower, so yes they were restrictive to an extent. The stainless 2.5" x 20" bodied Ultra Flows will flow 1075 sCFM, & are rated at 978 loss-free HP in a dual system. I also believe they will not be too loud - they may not be much louder than the Super Turbos until you are all the way in the throttle. These would be my first choice for a stock-looking muffler setup if I wanted an oval muffler & maximum flow. Most of the guys in the Pure Stock drags use Ultra Flows. If you have room for resonators in the system (maybe back in the tailpipes?), you could add those also for extra noise control if you need it. I can build you some in any length if you need something compact & effective. Another muffler I really like the looks of (internally), are the Cherry Bomb Vortex mufflers, except they are built like boxes. Internally however, they have a really close design to some I designed a few years ago & I've heard a few sound clips with these mufflers installed & I like the way they sound. Plus, they will flow very well although I've never seen flow specs on these under the same type of baseline testing we did at Dynomax. No Man With A Good Car Needs To Be Justified

WO23Coronet master Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,254 Canada	The Cherry Bomb Vortex apparently flow just a few cfm below what a straight 3" pipe will. They're probably what I'm going to use on my '67 Coronet when I put a 3" system on it

Yes, the shorter and/or high flow will be louder. Loud can give your subconscious a headache on longer drives. Convertibles especially.

[/quote] lol, went and looked at some part numbers, some of them are 4"-5" - im not too sure some of the bigger ones are accurate either 2200cfm seems a bit more than what a bare 4" pipe would flow?

I am thinking I may have made a mistake and should switch my complete exhaust system to 3". My TTI collectors are 3" then they reduce down to 2 1/2" to my TTI Xpipe. I know the motor will make 550-600hp on my current build. This is a 500 cube used for the street. I believe the FAST class is running 2 1/2". What about changing the x pipe to 3" and also the ultra flows then reduce them to 2 1/2 for the tail pipes?
