The dash and gauges where taken out of my 73 challenger and the tach was working before removed and now that they are back in the tach is not working. It started out on 0 rpms and after I started it up the tach went to 2 rpms very slow and now it stays on 2 rpms. What should I check to see why it is not working. Let me know what you think. Thanks
If the engine has not been modified, the tach may be stuck. Does the needle move freely? If the tension on the pivots are too tight or gummed up from age it will not move freely and not indicate properly. Usually if the tach goes bad, it smells like burned pop corn. Disassembling it reveals burnt resistors. If that has occurred, your best bet is to convert to modern electronics. See Moparts member Greg Garner. www.rt-eng.com
