Any ideas on how to get my dart to hook with 235/60 BFG drag radials? will hook with no NOS, but with just 100shot will spin thru first gear. Car has SS springs, no snubber. I had 16lbs in them last time out, had to hit NOS at about 60ft mark. I am going to buy some slicks, but just wondering if I can get these to work. Car also has comp. engineering drag shock front and back. backs are set on stiffest setting. Never really got to play around with anything, just wondering if anyone has an idea where to start.

Try 22-24psi and make sure your rear shocks are not topping out and unloading the tires.

i think i gained .3 going from the BFG's to the MT's drag radials. i also heard the M&H's are awesome but dont last very long and they have some weird sizes. also, i would try more air pressure also

Well I have been slipping and sliding around on a set of BFG Drag Radials(325's) for a couple of years on the brand X'er. I am tired of trying to make them work and will be going with Mickeys next time. So far best I can do is walk through 1st gear and then get on it and it hops a bit them. Anemic 1.7 60' times in a car running mid 10's at 130

When I had a set of these on my car I went out to a backroad and did a few launches. The car spun badly but I looked at the marks on the road and started playing with tire pressures. My car at the time was 3200# and I found that 21psi worked best for me.I has SS springs, CE shocks, snubber. My DR's were 275/60/15.The best 60 at the track was a 1.65 on a 12.0 car.

Wow. This does not sound too promising. I just ran across this thread while looking to see what kind of tire pressure to run in my BFG drag radials while at the track.

I can violently spin the 295/65 BFG drag radials into the top of 2nd gear on the street...I was hoping they might hook up a little better while at the track. If it does not rain tomorrow for the local test n tune, I'll start out at 22lbs and go from there.

Of course tomorrow will probably not be the best day for a sticky track...it's the first day the track is open for the season and I'm sure it's going to be green.

Unfortunately, the BFG's will have to make due until it's time for a new pair of tires. (Basically, it will not be this year.)

my 275-50-15s bfgs dont hook until 3rd gear on the street. Even at the track they spun when new. Went to a hoosier QTP and now it pulls the wheel its leaving so hard.

One of our customers ran a 7.98@174.55 in the second rd of elims in Bradenton2 weekends ago. First car to run in the 7's in eliminations, and backed it up with another 7 next round.

Well, for now, have fun with them and just have to
go easy on the starting line at the strip. The
quicker you burn them off, the sooner you can get
a set of Hoosier QTP's!

I used to hook with them, but did not like their longevity. Only difference for me and your car was that I ran a snubber, /6 torsion bars, and QA1's all the way around. I would 60' low 1.6's. And also agree that low 20psi on pressure is better for these. $ for $ the Hoosier quick time pro was the best tire on my car ultimately.

i used bfg exclusively fer a while there. the last set would not hook up at all. i became extremely irritated and decided i would kill them in the burnout box. after that burnout they worked great. i did notice that the compound varies depending on tire size. it seemed like the smaller sizes were softer. they hooked just as well as m/ts after that savage burnout. m/ts require the same thing, usually, their advice notwithstanding.

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

Just in case anybody is interested, I ran the car at track today. I ended up starting at 18lbs of air in the 295/65's and did a short burnout just to get a baseline of how it would react.

Well...it spun violently leaving at 2500rpm. It ran a 12.27 @ 116mph with a 2.099 60ft.

On the next run, I dropped the air pressure down to 15lbs and did a longer burnout. It reacted with an 11.86 @ 116mph and a 1.78 60ft. It still spun, but obviously not as hard.

Due to time limitations and looking to get a better launch, I threw on a pair of borrowed 28/11.50 M/T ET Streets @ 12lbs and made a pass. I did a decent burnout to get them heated up and it ran an 11.87 @ 115mph with a 1.77 60ft...still spun, but about the same as the 2nd pass with the BFG's.

The car is definitely not 100% optimized though...there's lots of suspension tuning and other stuff to do yet, for this is just a fun weekend car that I built for my wife out of spare parts and today was the very first time it had been down the track. ('70 Barracuda w/ a pump gas cast crank 440 in 100% street trim.)

Congrats, but man I love that color combo on that car. I always thought it would be tough to get a blue interior to look ok, without going to an all B5 extrior, but I really think I could live with that. Congrats and tell the wife nice car !.

Thanks!

I'll relay the message to her.

BTW...it's running a set of your wires. I was one of the first ones to buy them from you a few years back.
