I have a stock 69 std bore 383hp RR eng in my car and want to lighten the motor abit by putting an aluminum intake on and swap my iron hp exhaust manifolds with some yearone repops.

can someone tell me the BEST intake manifold for The 383hp??

The eng has a 750 edelbrock, everything else is all stock (flat top pistons, 906 heads etc) its also an automatic torqueflite and a 3.23 surgrip

BTY the motor is in a 67 satellite

I like the Performer RPM manifold, but I'm not sure how it would work with a stock cam & ex. manifold setup. with everything else left as is, I'm not sure you'll notice a difference with any manifold versus the stock piece. If you just want to lighten up a bit, and have the look of an aluminum manifold, an Eddy perfomer might be the best choice. It's basically no different than stock, just cast in aluminum instead of iron.

Personally, I'd go with headers instead of manifolds. No other bolt on part (sans a nitrous kit) can match the overall performance gain of a set of headers.

I guess the real question here, is: What is your long term goal with this motor?

You won't gain enough in weight loss to make the cost worth while. It takes removing 100lbs to knock a tenth of a second off your 1/4 mile time. You may lose 10 to 15 lbs with a intake and exhaust swap.

Just curious about weight reduction, are you trying to make the car lighter and faster? If that's the case then a performer rpm intake and headers would make a weight reduction of a 100# or so but would make make a huge performance gain if the engine is a stock 383hp.

I bought a $20 digital/75 lb scale off ebay and it came in yesterday.

I'm comtemplating going with an all aluminum top end on an otherwise stock 383. I've weighed the parts so far, and here is what I got. All 70-383HP stuff vs. the aluminum parts chosen.

Iron:
Heads: 50 lbs each
W/P hsng: 16 lbs
intake: 38 lbs
Carb: 10 lbs
EX. Man. 16 lbs each

Total: 196 lbs.

Aluminum:
440source heads: 30lbs each
CH4B intake 10
440source W/P/H 5
TQ Carb/adapter 5
headers 15

Total: 95 lbs.

Luckily, the only things I have to buy new are the heads and waterpump housing. Everything else was used on the aluminum side.

Still cost me apx. $1200 to save a 100 lbs on front of the car. The bright side is...i was thinking of building a set of heads anyway. Why not buy new.

I didn't know the year one repops were aluminum.

If you could find the parts used, you could save about 50lbs with headers and intake, and pick up some HP. Probably about 40hp on a good intake swap and headers.

Mopar Muscle did a stock 383 HP rebuild and then added intake, carb, headers, etc, to the stock short block and got 450 horse total, which included a cam swap too, but otherwise a stock 383HP.

The stock type intakes are: Weind 8008, which is real close in appearance, Eld. performer 383, which accepts a TQ carb, and Eld. DP4B, also very stock appearing. A Eld. performer is good, or RPM, but may cause hood clearance issues.

Other things to look for are your radiator, which is probably 25 lbs dry and starter, which is 15 lbs. I just weighed them a while ago. An 054 Rad. and stock rebuilt starter.

Look for bargains here, ebay, craigslist, etc.

I have a set of Year One 69 Hi Po exhaust manifolds and they are cast iron and weigh the same as factory. I have Hedman Hedders, a 750 Holley DP and a Edelbrock Torker intake on my 69 and like how it runs.

heres year one definition of there manifolds

These extremely high-quality reproduction manifolds have the correct casting numbers, pentastar logo, rust inhibited coating, and a ceramic high-heat coating that resist exhaust temperatures with a cast-iron appearance.

they don't sell cast iron anymore

I believe they are referring to the ceramic high heat coating having a natural(STOCK) cast iron LOOKING finish. If they were made of aluminum they would be alot more expensive than they are and it would be clearly stated in the ad IMO.

If they were aluminum, they would melt.
